Installed this tailgate assist a few months ago and it is definitely one of my best mods! Borrowed the idea from @Crom.

Got the assist and brackets separately from Amazon, and sourced the bolts/nuts from Home Depot. Edit: it looks like Amazon no longer carries the assist. Here is the eBay link.

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/Tailgate-A...stem-for-Toyota-Tacoma-2005-2015/362947372834

Brackets part number 900BA1SB and 900BA2SB

Thanks for the pictures and the links!
So for you (and others) was one assist too weak? Did you go the route of nuts and bolts into the tailgate side?

    So I saw this today........

    This cannot be normal right?

Any ideas on whats happening? Is this a common problem for the LSD? Or do I just need to drain, fill, and put in a new plug?

Nope, nothing really to add. I’d just reiterate that the most important thing when it comes to recovery are good recovery points. Rear is easy, throw a shackle receiver in the hitch. Front is less easy but there are still a few good bolt on options.

Have you recently changed the oil? Did you use a new crush washer?

Removed my front diff, packaged it in a bucket and gave it a pat on the butt and sent it down to ecgs to get an arb locker added to it.

Everyone says if you’re gonna get it, get it when you regear to save on labor. While I agree, labor isn’t much at all. They’re only charging me $200 in labor to add the locker, plus $50 in shipping (plus the cost of the locker obviously) Overall not bad at all. I don’t regret not doing it when I did the regear because at the time I didn’t need it.

Went exploring/camping all weekend. First spot had an amazing view but was ridiculously hot/dusty. Next day was more my style deep in a valley. Some old mining claim with a creek running through it. Someone had even built a creepy goblin shit house complete with open/closed sign. Perfect spot to set up for the night!

Haven't changed the Diff Oil since I bought it in November. Toyota Dealer I bought it from changed the engine oil a month ago though. But theres no way they touched the diff right?

No, that’s highly unlikely. Very odd. If it were me I would make sure the plug is snug, clean the area with brake clean and monitor. If it starts seeping again then put a fresh crush washer on there

I think it would put less strain on the assist with the second one put in, and it also slowed the tailgate coming down nicely. Yes nuts and bolts on the tailgate side as well.

If I add a new crush washer, do I need to just drain it all and refill? Since I'm losing Oil I can't just drain it and add the same amount of what came out right?
