What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Some of these gentlemen who off road much more than I do can help you with that more than I. If you have no winch or places to mount rear shackles I would suggest a recory point for the front there are some that mount under and behind the bumper, for the rear if you have a reciever there are ones that mount in the reciever and mount a shackle you can hook to. As for a compressor, I have been usinga Tsounami from pepboys. Inexpensive, works well, easy to stow in a small tote with other recovery gear. A tow strap and a snatch strap, they aree not the same thing, is a must. A tire plug kit and tire gauge for repairs and reinflating your tires. Fire extinguisher, axe, shovel, a couple of good quality shackles, a jack, and a couple of boards to put under the jack if you are in soft ground conditions. These are just the basics but should be enough to help you get out of alot of situations. Communcations and a set of traction boards are a plus but not a neccessity. The best help is don't go alone if possible then you have somebody to pull you out. Randy @EatSleepTacos perhaps you can tell us what i missed.

I have never had one of those but i have never heard anything but good about them. They appear to be a nice unit and I have seen in the past where some were installed in a bed cubbie

 

The consensus on the forums seems to be that Vlair is a great cheap option. Plenty of people use portable harbor freight or Walmart type compressor. They work, but don’t last, and take forever. I personally have an ARB single mounted in the bedside cubby. It’s not suuuper expensive. It’s a little slow but airs up my 295s fine.

 

Thats exactly what I was looking at doing. Wasn't sure what other compressor that would fill up tires would fit. I have some basic tires now, but will be upgrading in the future. Wanted the bedside mount because I have air bags in the rear that I keep filled, to avoid the lean. And the valves for them are mounted to the rear license plate. Huge convenience having it there.

 

I'll have to see if I have a front recovery point. I just need the receiver mount for the rear. Anyone know what break strength I need? I don't know much about those, is more better or do I need something more specific for a tacoma?

 

The bedside mount is worth it for me. I don’t like the engine or in cab mounting options. And I want my bed emptyish. Works great for me. My wife actually got me the ARB single portable, and I hardwired it to the battery myself. Works great. The bedside mount is pretty open but the compressor doesn’t seem to get too dirty in the cubby. Though there is some corrosion from road salt on the fittings ( fucking Wisconsin).

 

Made an old jeep swing out fit my HC bumper and then took out on some trails this long weekend

 

I think I want the single projectors. I like these too but not 2x as much haha

Installed this tailgate assist a few months ago and it is definitely one of my best mods! Borrowed the idea from @Crom.

Got the assist and brackets separately from Amazon, and sourced the bolts/nuts from Home Depot. Edit: it looks like Amazon no longer carries the assist. Here is the eBay link.

I got a fridge/freezer with the 1st stimulus check.
Now I need a dual battery setup so yes...

It's coming along!! Got the 22RE swap done, paint has cleaned up nicely. Deep cleaning the interior and getting everything put back together. No rust what so ever!!!

Nope, nothing really to add. I’d just reiterate that the most important thing when it comes to recovery are good recovery points. Rear is easy, throw a shackle receiver in the hitch. Front is less easy but there are still a few good bolt on options.

 

If I may, what front skid plate is that?
