Yes, I’ve seen it and it’s for the grey unit like mine too,

I need to get a press one day and do this in another 75,000 miles to be safe

Ok, so I finally was able to get out and sort of inspect my Gen 1 supercharger with a supposed rebuild with only 25 miles on it. Here are my findings.

Let me know what you all think in regards to condition and whether or not you would run it or send it off for a rebuild.

I first started by looking closer at the pulley, when I did I noticed there was some oil build up from a slight seep around the seal. I stupidly didn’t take a photo before I gave it a wipe down, but here is what the seal looked like. It appears to be the updated seal, which tells me it HAS had a rebuild, but tells me little more than that..
    52B4A6EA-276E-4BBA-90CF-CF4E0E0A7C49.jpg

Then I took the nosecone section off and got eyes on the oil. One would suspect if it only had 25 miles on it that the oil would be pristine. It was not. It wasn’t terrible, but it was definitely brown, and had a bit of metallic flickering going on. Certainly didn’t look like just 25 miles on it to me. (Take the pan shot with a grain of salt, I’ve done quite a few fluid changes lately, it was wiped out, but not completely cleaned with solvent or anything).
    5DD66795-35C4-4235-A8AC-59295B8B02DF.jpg A0D9DA8A-F7C5-441A-9C3B-CF837C2CC999.jpg

I then pulled the rotor pack out. I was happy to find a good solid coating still covering the rotors, which further confused me on whether or not this unit did indeed have a fresh rebuild.

Then I cleaned everything up so I could get a better look at surfaces. I must admit, I don’t really know what constitutes acceptable or not; hopefully some of your eyes can guide me here.
    DF671976-B3C7-4477-9615-761C4E537316.jpg BF7F8F87-2571-4ADF-A3A9-A8B021F5C88B.jpg

I put it all back together just hand tight and with no oil, sat it down level and spun it a bit slowly, nothing seemed out of order to me, spun freely without any inconsistencies.

So in summary. Seal, newer type, but slightly seeping. Oil, not fresh. Rotors good and coated. Surfaces ???. I’m no closer to knowing how fresh this rebuild is other than thinking it was NOT done 25 miles ago (would the oil look like that if it was simply sitting for a long time?).

What do you all think? Is there something else I should look at in there and get pictures of that would help make a better decision to run this or send it off? Would you run it, or would you send it in?

It actually looks pretty good, definitely more than 25 miles tho,

The oil should have NO metal flakes,

Oil is definitely dirt and probably more like 25k oil then 25 miles.

If there was oil that you cleaned around the snout nose seal then that seal is leaking,

You need a new seal and it has to be installed perfectly square or it will not seal correctly,

A large socket the same size as the seal is a good choice.

The nose seal clip is the older style,

Probably get the newer type clip and a new nose seal

I think this guy has them.

If the nose seal was installed incorrectly, not squared the seal could actually wear a grove in the shaft.

Hopefully that’s not the case for you

Make sure you clean this section up the best you can,
It’s were the seal was riding and probably leaking from
and if I remember when you install the seal you use grease or something so
the seal doesn’t burn on startup

Spent the weekend refinishing the used supercharger I picked up. Pretty happy with how it is coming out, still has to finish drying before I can put it back together, but here’s a picture of where things stand at the moment. For more details you can check out the process here

Here is a nice mod for your supercharger,

It’s a glowshift DUAL TEMPERATURE gauge for your supercharger.

You install one temperature up by the MAF and one one the outlet hot side going into the intake.

You will get live temperatures next to each other.

Here is a photo where I installed the temperature sensors and the gauge in the clock location

    Hey all,

new to the Forum but I have read a lot on here

    04 DC , 4x4

I have a trd supercharger with a boost gauge installed but the gauge never reads above -1 maybe zero.

I looked around and see that it is hooded to the vacuum nipple right behind the throttle body. There is another guy on here who has a web site and it shows to hook the gauge to the nipple on the back of the charger but mine is going to a fuel regulator.

    ?

This is a good video of the vacuum lines for the 2nd gen supercharger: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/s-c-whine-problem-need-help.340549/#post-9060318
    Video for a 1st gen supercharger: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFqouoVTVcE

White line goes to boost gauge, and one to boost port and the other to the fuel pressure regulator.

Double check that your boost port on the sc is not plugged, mine was plugged from the dealer and was never connected so it would only show 0 psi max. I found the brass fitting that went into the sc at a napa auto parts store. Part number 05703b-102 fits the original threads and small toyota line.

Thanks ! That picture is exactly what mine is hooked up to minus the T.

I also noticed that the 2 ports on the DS of the SC one goes to the brake booster and evap (i think) are backwards compared to the install instructions. Looks like they did it that way so the brake booster line wound be bent at hard angles.

I also have low rpm high gear ping u going up hills or passing - the ex owner says it did not have that before - it may be cali gas ? I posted on a methanol post for insight.
