Did you happen to look at the rear doors of a 4 door tacoma? The actuators and assemblies look very similar to the 4runner actuators rather than the front door tacoma assemblies. It would be weird if tacomas have 1 type of motor in the front and a different type in the rear.

The 4Runner and Tacoma actuators are not the same. I used to buy and sell parts for them and the 4Runner ones will bolt up and plug in, but they were wired differently internally and wouldn’t work.

I just installed the failed motor and put the door back together for now. I emailed Ebay seller, Azgiant Power, just before this reply, to ask if they sell the Mabuchi Motor FC-280PC for first generation (1995.5 - 2004) Toyota Tacomas with the short nubs. I included the photo seen in the above post. I will post their response if any.

I played with this a year or two ago and was never able to figure out a replacement motor. I hope you’re able to sort this out!
Some have directed me towards land cruiser forums but it doesn’t appear as though that will work either (see link below).

I was able to pry the plastic gear off though, it just took some effort. You should definitely be able to if you’re determined.

Thanks for trying to find a replacement motor for these actuators. Hopefully you'll get some good news for all of us.

    Ebay seller, Azgiant Power's response:
"Hi, we don't have this type at the moment"

I also contacted Mabuchi Motor and they also said they do not make that specific Tacoma motor anymore. Their advise was to purchase the $330 assembly from Toyota. :(

Bummer. Oh well. It was worth a shot. Thanks again for checking into it.

I wonder if they would be willing to make it though. There's a market for them. Even if it would be a limited production and the cost per unit would be higher, it might be worth there time. If I had a Tacoma with a failed door lock actuator, I'd pay $20 and even more for a direct replacement motor. Toyota sells these lock assemblies for $300 and that's online pricing. If you walk up to a dealership parts counter, they want over $400 for them.

I'd buy a couple just in case mine ever went out!

My issue is the plastic gear failed. The motor still works fine. Is it possible to replace just the gear?

Which gear failed on yours? As long as you can find a donor you should be able to replace the gear. On mine the black worm gear was completely worn down.

They are, but OEM driver's lock assemblies are going for $300+ (pn: 6904004010).
