    Similar to facebook and twitter, if you write:

    @username

    in your post, the username gets an email notification or whatever telling him/her that he/she has been mentioned in a thread

    For example:

    OP, you can ask @Chris4x4 about this, im sure he can teach you how to blow that up

    then Chris4x4 will get a notification with a link to that post.

    I modified that feature, including #username, for a client once on a social engine platform and it was on ajax feedback. For every freaking texts, it multi-loops any valid @crap to user database, doable but quite heavy. Personally, i don't care for it, especially on the old-school forum.
