Hi all, I just received a torque wrench for my Tacoma now that I have some alloy wheels. I was wondering what you guys torque your aftermarket alloy wheels down to? My mechanic said 130ft lbs, but this seems like too much to me

..torque is based on the studs, not the wheels. 83 ftlb.

Precisely one (1) ugga dugga before the lug snaps off.

Which is probably where OP's studs are if his mechanic has been torquing them to 130.

Sounds like your mechanic is looking to scare up some work, replacing your snapped lug studs. Toyota's are 83lbs. At 130 they'll either be stretched like a 50-year-old porn star, or just plain gone.

Probably doesn't take that much. I had one front wheel stud snap, because the torque wrench I was using didn't click if pushed down too slowly...

No guarantee even at 83. I put this on in April. Brand new, torqued properly.

If they’re brand new alloy wheels I’ve heard you’ll want to torque them a couple of times after you start running them. I’m not a mechanic but I did it because it was suggested to me. To my knowledge I only recall one person mentioning they had an issue not doing it so I don’t know.

I've never done this and never needed to. New, old, steel, alloy, painted, bare metal... hasn't mattered at all. I've always torqued to manufacturer spec and always been fine.
