Unfortunately if I ever move out of this s/lovely state it’ll have to be somewhere warm year around. My wife lived/comes from northern climates.

I on the other hand prefer it. Central Sierras seem ok for that climate compromise though.

Well, it's time for a new starting battery in my truck...
Considering another AGM to match my house battery (X2Power), but I know the alternator won't fully charge it without modification. Anyone done this? Which method did you use?

 

I've had any Oddysey for 18 months without issue. Stock alt. Once a month I plug in a battery tender and all seams just fine.

 

Running an optima as well, on an OEM alternator with no problems. Have solar too, so don’t feel bad about not hooking a tender up to it, or unplugging the thing (Renogy told me not to do this but TacomaWorld told me it was fine). Scan gauge shows me at 13.9-14.2 volts while driving which is good enough for me.
I do plan on getting a nicer, higher amp alternator one day but haven’t seen the need yet.
Before this, I had a yellow top for 2-3 years before it shit the bed. It was made in Mexico and I’ve heard plenty of people having this problem since Optima moved their to Mexico

Hell, I considered a 24f for this one.

It's just the starter/aux lights battery, and it'll be totally isolated from the Drifter bits.

Yup!
The X2 27f weighs about 20lbs more than most stock 27f batteries.
The X2 24f weighs less, and still has higher specs than stock.

If I didn't have this house battery in a 27f (which I intentionally got for the power reserves), then I'd have gone down to the 24f for the starter battery.
...but I want them totally interchangeable, so later today I will have two 27f batteries.

all it really comes down to is running as much castor as you can in order to push the tires to the front. If you have SPC', that makes it easier too to keep your camber in check with higher castor.

Although when some people tub, they cut enough to allow full range of adjustment from the alignment cams.

 

Not bad! I might have to pick one up. I was going to buy a spare alternator soon. So I think I will by this one, swap it in and then use my stock one as a trail spare!

 

Pretty much my plan. I hate to bring a spare alternator but I guess it's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. I know the odds of a new alternator going out is slim, but I'll use it hard with the fridge and everything else, plus the 4Runner only gets driven to wheel and go to the mountains.

 

single 27F AGM here with 100w solar constantly keeping it topped off. Never an issue on the trail even with a ton of lights and fridge for days.
