hmm, how do I get this plastic drain plug off?

    Why? Spin-on is similar level of mess as not using the drain spigot on the filter cap.

    I definitely prefer a filter can, but do like how you can drain this before taking it off to reduce the mess.

    Typically you need to loosen the filter canister or cap with a wrench anyway. Only extra steps are inserting the filter cartridge and replacing the O-ring. :rolleyes:

    I'm more annoyed by the inconsistent dipstick reading, though that characteristic is just as bad on the 1GR in 2nd gens.

    friend says you left out the step about having to drain the filter canister first. :p

    I don't drain the filter cap first. :notsure: Never bothered since buying the truck.

    Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds
    some of those capped filters for the 4 cylinder toyotas have been known to cause oil pressure issues for the VVTI systems. havnt seen it with the 3.5 yet, but something to note

    I had the dealer do my first oil change. Crawled under my truck recently to do a general inspection and discovered my 2.7L has a standard honest to goodness spin on oil filter, none of that plastic and cartridge crap. Yay!!
