Same experience here. Cruise control on the 19770 and 19800 beta versions of 2.0 was much better than it is in 2.0 final base. No way to tell for sure, since I'm just a customer with no inside info, but it feels like whatever code Mat implemented to improve cruise in those betas did not get carried over into the final version. I like having an ECT shift map, so for the moment I'm sticking with 2.0 final base and just living with the fact that I have to turn cruise off any time there are hills, because the betas both used ECT as the toggle for gear lock.

So let me see if I got this down.

I buy the VF Tuner Software, Cable, and Tune Pack.

I can also buy new ECU Unlocks ($75ea.) for unlocking tuning other peoples truck.

    Sound right?

I have been clicking the check box before clicking through the Red Screen of Death hoping that it helps with this issue.

Let us know if there is anything that we can do on this end to help.

Agreed! My 2015 2wd sr5 I spent next to nothing on that truck other than a tonneau cover, in channel window visor, bug shield, and an Alabama sticker. Basically logged in here and account remained mostly dormant. Then got my 2019 trd off road with 4wd..... I’m in the 6-7k range at the moment. No big additions coming any time soon except when the race is over between sc and turbos and mostly all bugs are worked out and the product becomes order able. Then there’s another 7k+

Yeah man. You won't get the tune pack for other ECUs though. But some people may trade or make arrangements for those files.
Be sure to check out the vftuner thread for updates on people's tuning experiments.

I agree, cruise control on 2.0 sucks. It’s a little bit better on 19770, as long as I don’t set it above 70mph. At 69 and below (on 19770), it shifts to 5th on hills, then back to 6th after you get over the top. If I’m above 70, it downshifts to 4th on hills, but does not get stuck there. Goes back to 6th after the incline.
2.0 Cruise Control settings need to be fixed or at least improved like 19770- @OVTune

There is only so much that I can do.
Some people are ok, some people are not, some people want it to be unique to them.

The best we can do is include all cruise control methods in vF tuner and post a guide on how to modify it.

    Gotcha.
Guess I’m 19770 for life! Best for my truck.
I’d just fuck it up in VFtuner. I’ll let the tuners tune.

How many miles do you drive a year?

I recently test drove a 4x4 DC Tundra and got 17.5mpg highway and 12.5 city, for a combined 13.5-14mpg

I was doing the math if you drive 15,000 miles a year, the Tundra only costs $700 more of gas every year compared to my Tacoma(19mpg), or an extra car payment.

If MPG is your main reason, it's really not a huge difference. Furthermore, most people with Ram trucks get really similar mileage to the Tundra, my buddy who has 2 of them gets about 15mpg combined and fuelly has similar numbers (15-16.5mpg) making the difference even smaller.

On a side note, the back passenger space of the DC Tundra is very impressive, more comfy than the taco and the handling is surprisingly great. Only 5 inches wider so parking is not much more difficult and I can easily see it as a nice upgrade to the Taco.

    Agree

I have a crewmax tundra, you could have a party in the back.

I also like that the tundra has a 38 gallon tank, way better than getting 12-15 mpg in a tacoma (like many do) with only a 21 gallon tank. It’s really not as big of a difference as people make it out to be, especially if you are modified.

The size takes a little bit to get used to but it feels a lot bigger than it is. I’ve been on lots of trails out west and it’s never been an issue.

Yup, my biggest concern was the handling of the Tundra feeling loose, unwieldy, and the vehicle not being fun to drive.

I was proven wrong though, but this was the dual cab, I hear crewmax doesn't handle as sporty but never driven one to compare. The extra space in the back is awesome though but DC was more than enough for me and have a bit more use for a bigger bed:D

If you have gigantic tires on the Taco then MPG difference will be smaller but keep in mind Tundra had the stock TRD wheel/tire setup while my Taco has Falken 32"s.

It really depends on the year. I'm thinking I might be hitting at least 15k+ a year from now on, maybe a decent amount of that towing something. That's why I've been looking at the 1500 EcoDiesel, that MPG sounds amazing. Even with OVTune, I only get something like 16mpg at best with my tacoma, and something like 8mpg towing a simple enclosed utility trailer. Things kinda fell through though, so I'm stuck with the taco for a while longer. Hope there's anything left after November... :infantry:

Gotcha, it shouldn't be a bad choice, specially if you get a decent warranty with it.

The eco diesel gets great mpg, so it would be a substantial increase in mpg, not sure how you get so low mpg lol

The only thing about eco diesels is that even though they have great towing capability, they are even slower than the taco in acceleration so in won't be an improvement in that aspect.

For anyone that is getting any of the big 3 in their V8 forms instead of the Tundra because of the mpg, I would recommend to do the math because the difference is surprisingly small.
