Make sure you know what you're getting into. The tent is 61 lb folded: https://www.cabelas.ca/product/135108/cabelas-double-deluxe-tent-cot

On the bright side, it's roomy enough to fit a Buddy heater inside if you choose.

Yeah i know it's a bit of weight and was planning on this concept, which is why i designed my bed rack in the way that i have; https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/cheap-rtt-for-those-on-a-budget.478273/
for comparison the Tepui Low-pro 2 RTT is 106lbs and $1200 more expensive than this alternative.

i figured to look into it, if not grab it for myself and create a cheaper RTT.
I messaged the guy to get some extra photos as the Kijiji ad is just the tentcot folded up entirely in its bag.... so depending on condition - i might or might not move on it. Just want to know beforehand if someone could TW express it or not.

This reminds me of those people that have "heritage" grille on non Pro models:duh:
Just have a nice ground tent that you can use as a basecamp and return to after long day of wheeling vs trying to build more wind resistance and decrease your MPG:D
As an ex-RTT owner I can tell you yours's wont be as comfortable as $1000 RTT I had :rasta:

you mean the one you paid $15 for and never got?

Anyways, I'm aware it's not going to be super plush like the $1000+ RTT options but I'm going for something that can give me a good night's rest at the end of a day of driving, also keeping the bugs out. On a day to day thing, i can't justify the RTT - but for the something like the Tuk trip, i'm not sure if it's worth it either, but it's also not off the table.

\I'm considering the tentcot RTT as an options as it's not a painful bite to my wallet as well as i do get an idea if it's worth getting a RTT at all or just give up and stay with the ground tents as i've always had used..

Reason i want to try it out is to see if it's worth it; as it takes me off any wet ground, might be faster to set up/ set down which means more cooking and relaxing time, and well not sure if i'd be able to set up a rain fly on a freestanding tent on solid stone in the middle of the rain. idk BS scenarios that might not ever happen. Mostly just want to see for myself.

In regards of "drag"/ "wind resistance", it's planted behind the cab and not above it like some crazy people do where it acts like a parasail. mine would be like 8" above the tonneau cover at most. if anything my Backrack causes more wind resistance/ turbulence.

In regards of basecamp, my bed rack is designed to be entirely removable... which means the tentcot RTT is removable... which means it's as easy as lifting 4 pins and i can set it on the ground like a normal tent and drive off and do offroad things and then put it back afterwards. :rasta:

Ah, a brave soul to conquer Tuktoyaktuk and achieve ultimate overland status! One of the requirements for this trip is everyone must sleep in a comfortable @tacoma16 tent :rasta: No need to make sleeping arrangements, or bring food... :anonymous:

We shall begin out Tuk training and preparation soon, stay tuned :fistbump:

Wouldn’t even bother setting it up on the truck. You are already off the ground on that cot style tent. Rtt’s are comfy and convenient (All tour gear is in there) but are heavy and a pain to set up at times. (My arb was always a bit of a pain to put the cover on unless it was hot out, in the fall it was tough).

It all works, just depends what you want.....or what your significant other tells you.

My RTT is set up too high, its a pain to set up and put away, I'm short so step ladder is used and on uneven ground it becomes a liability as I could fall. With that being said It has served me well, I don't feel any difference driving down the highway, and I can go offload with it and not worry too much about it and I always get a good nights sleep in it. The longest trip I took with it is about a week crossing Labrador. I don't think it's the right option for a month long trip though I think a small trailer would be a better option, something like a teardrop or a converted cargo trailer. I'm currently looking into that option as this will be a road trip and not a wheeling trip. I'm going to keep an eye on you guys as you plan for this and hopefully we can meet up there if our schedules align.

I can't imagine it to take 2 weeks, might be a week or two since i'm pretty sure Norilsk put an arbitrary time.

To put into perspective, for a it's 480km a day for 2 weeks straight just to get to Tuk and 2 weeks for the return trip. So if we somehow pull 1000km a day, then yeah then it might be doable in 2 weeks

I'm in that same boat. I'm taking a bit more than a month off of work (officially i plan to take 2 months off)
this is a once in a life time trip for me and most likely the same for everyone going (not sure about Norilsk since he's probably going to return home in Russia with the Tacoma, might need to faerie over from Alaska).

I have no intention to set a land speed record from Toronto to Tuk or something like that. I want to see and experience the trip and take in what exactly is out there and i don't want to be drained from driving mindlessly for 16 hours a day, the RAP2020 trip of mine showed that to me.

As the saying goes; it's about the journey and not the destination.
I see the Tuk trip as a way to scale the Earth - to truly see how impossibly far it is from us, to be able to comprehend such a distance.

right, you reminded me about the need to level the truck.
truck needs to be flat for me to be flat....

Don't be a stranger to the Tuk thread, any all all information is crucial, especially such a trip and such a distance

Simple as a few pieces of wood, couple under this tire, one under that tire. Done.
