Alright I'm gonna be 'that guy' and probably start a vicious one sided debate on why not to throw a glasspack on a 3.4, but let's at least try for a civil disussion.

I understand that a lot of people consider a glasspack on a V6 to be 'ricey'. That's your opinion. I see (hear) both sides of that argument.

I also understand that a 6 cylinder will never sound as 'deep' or 'throaty' as an 8 cylinder.

So basically what I'm saying is talk to me. I'll listen and consider whatever you got to say. A few friends of mine really suggest throwing one on there, but I'm a little skeptical.

Glasspacks are kinda "Old school". You can get better sound, and performance, from a tuned muffler, or cat back.

In terms of performance, is that a reference to the lack of back pressure from a glasspack?

On modern engines, "Back pressure" is not really aplicable. "Back pressure" would mean a restriction. The exhaust performs best when Scavenging is optimized. Many "Performance" exhaust systems or mufflers can maximise the engines scavenging, and give a slight gain in hp/tq. Glass packs simply let the exhaust flow straight thru, and kill the bottom end hp.

I have one inline with my muffler to eliminate rasp and I am very pleased with it.

It is not terrible, but low end you will notice it. I'm convinced that I have higher top end though.

That is correct. Videos of my truck are in my sig if you're interested. I also have an "exhaust build" thread floating around here somewhere if you are at all interested.

imo i think glasspacks sound alright but i do agree that they are more "old school." i wouldnt put a glasspack on a 3.4 but on the other hand i would def put glasspacks on an old ford. but everyone has different prefrences if u know what i mean.

And that aero turbine 2525 sounds very nice and clean on a 3.4. i saw that you tube vid and loved it from the first time i heard it.

Stay the same size as long as all other engine components stay the same. If you boost a vehicle, then piping size changes make more sense...

Ya I decided to rule out a glasspack. Did some more research and talked to a guy at O'Reillys, and the overwhelming majority of information basically considered them outdated. From what I've read and heard from people, it'll sound good for about 4 months, but by then most of the fiberglass will have blown out and it'll sound worse than what I began with.

I know some guys on here are running glasspacks and haven't had any problems. That's great, but it's not something I really wanna deal with now. I'll probably throw on a Flowmaster 40 series in the near future - for performance and sound.

The lack of longevity on them is exactly why I bought a larger one and installed it in reverse. It sounds counter-intuitive, but it still works well and I see it working at near full potential for a couple years minimum. But ruling it out is your call... I am just trying to guide you with what I know/have learned. Good luck, let us know how it goes, and let me know if you have any questions!

FWIW, On the Tacoma V6's, Ive found that you can go up to a 2.5" pipe before you start to loose any low/mid range hp. Going larger than 2.75", the loss begins to negate the gains in the upper rpms, IMHO.
