Regret buying sport?

The main reason I was looking at the OEM skid was because I don't plan on doing heavy rock crawling and the aluminum would keep weight down while still providing some level of protection. My SR5 is a DD, and there have been unbelievable road trash that I've seen driving across DFW every day. I'd like to have at least some deflection/protection if I can't stop/evade in time.

 

Interesting. May be getting the skid in that case. And that was kind of what I was worried about based on his attitude/response. He also didn't realize my Taco was 4wd and was surprised when I told him.

I put the TRD skid plate on my 4x4 Sport this weekend...wasn’t too bad. Comes with the bolts already attached to it.

 

On my 4th Toyota truck. All them 4x4, first 3 them had differential lock. The last one (before my current one) was a TRD Off Road. I never used used the diff lock on any of my trucks. When I was looking for my current truck I thought I had to had another OR. Plus all the chest beating about having to have an OR or a Pro was in my head. Well I couldn’t find an Off Road that was option quite the way I wanted and didn’t want to pony the dollars for the Pro. Plus priority for me was DCLB.
On 12/28/19 I came across a truck at a dealer that was optioned pretty much just as I wanted. It was a new 2019 TRD Sport. Dealer gave me great price as they where trying to clear out 2019 inventory. So I bought it. As of 9/20 I am now sniffing at 15,000 miles - And that includes the 2 1/2 months it sat in my driveway due to Covid-19 lockdown.

Zero regrets. It is a great truck. Rides very comfortable Goes everywhere I take it, including the mountains skiing and I work it like a rented mule. The truck doesn’t sit quite for long and the thing never breaks a sweat. In the 9 months that I have owned this truck, I haven’t looked back once.

 

I love my sport, no regrets.

 

Right there with you on that. The Canadians get to have a manual OR access cab, but not us in the USA, lame. That said I am very pleased with our Sport so far and will probably like it even more once the ADM is done.

 

the trd or is a what if scenario truck. i bet that majority that has an offroad will probably only use the locker or crawl control less than a handful of time throughout the trucks life. plus as someone mentioned earlier, they are 4lo only features.

 

Just add an arb air locker to the sport problem solved

 

I bought the TRD Sport because I like the way it it felt going down the road.

I totally didn't buy it for the skewp... okay maybe I did

 

If your questioning getting Sport over the off road . The clear answer is get a off-road . Order one in the options u want . Don’t settle for shit u won’t be happy in the end .

 

the OR is a better truck than the sport, the sport is a better car than the OR.

I also will say that the only thing worse than a slightly higher payment is driving around with truck envy when the one you should have bought rolls by, and then feeling this feeling for the all the years your reliable Tacoma lasts!

If you're spending on the north side of 35k for your dream truck, the last thing you wanna buy is a pile of regret.

 

What is the process of acquiring an access cab off road for Canada for the lower 48 ? Anyone ?

 

You need one of us to buy it New and then resell it to you as a used vehicle.
It’s not hard buying across the border if the vehicle is made in North America.
My brother bought a truck out of Arizona, he flew down and picked it up, drove it back.
With Covid you just need to ship it across the border and then pick it up.

I'm really late to this party - When I bought my sport (shown here) I was forced to pass on the OR because it was not available with a MANUAL transmission.
I did find (via this forum) a party that had an OR but wanted the SCOOP. I did not like it because of the visual interference when cresting hills. So we swapped!
Then I did not want a 4-door....Have 94K on the 2016 - If it was totalled tomorrow - I'd do it all over again. Clay

 

I rarely even use 4low but I'm not an extreme off roader . My sport does really good in 2wd and great in 4wd and my feels awesome on the blacktop .

 

I have KO2’s on my truck and in 2 wheel drive it gets me thru sand and up some gravel hills.

I had to use 4 low when I hit a ditch .. I just drove thru it at that point in low lol.

Sports rock and they do no nose dive driving them lol
