On the FJ case, you just add a breather to the nipple at the shifter?

There is no correct orientation. You just need to get it installed to match. Also, after I commented earlier, I had a harder time getting into 4hi and 2hi while the engine was running than not

my shifter gets stuck in 4lo and neutral and takes a couple of reallllly hard shifts to get it into 4hi and 2wd. not sure why because it was smooth as butter before i messed with shifter. Ive tied every orientation and engagement in the shifter and it just wont engage like it did before.

i know sometimes the shift rails hit the adapter to the crawl box, and make it hard to get into gear, but since you dont have a crawl box, that shouldnt be an issue then

    Old post revival.

Does anyone have info on how to convert an automatic Tacoma to read speed off of the tcase instead of the wheel sensors?

just wire the case sensor wires up to where the auto speed takes it reading

so, is it as simple as the case sensor being hooked up to the part of the ECU where the wheel sensors go?

Edit: turns out speed is read off of the transmission in the auto 4wd trucks (from what my Google fu could tell me) but when the abs goes do to an axle swap it should only be abs issues ..having an abs light is cool

may initial worry was based on this thread, https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/upgrade-to-full-float-rearend-limp-mode.588516/

but it’s based on an axle swap in an original 2wd truck where speed is picked up off the rear axle.

    I think.....

    A thing or two...
Where the speed is read depends on the year and truck setup.

05-11 manual prerunner read the speed from the transmission.
05-11 either auto/manual 4x4 read the speed from the transfer case.
05-11 auto prerunner read the speed from the wheel sensors
12+ read from the wheel sensors no matter the configuration.

In all cases the speed signal is fed through the ABS module before being passed to the instrument cluster, and then from the cluster to the ECU.

Interesting. So my 2010 auto 4x4 wasn’t at the case, since I didn’t have to extend wires to the fj case (only did the sensing wires for 4x4). So this makes me believe it’s at the transmission (based on research) or at the wheels.

In any case, deleting the wheel sensor (because of new rear axle) would only cause the abs light to be on and shouldn’t cause issue with regular driving or speedo assuming speed isn’t read at the wheels.

Only the Manauls were at the tcase. All automatics always came from the wheel speed sensor
