I think with better designed lights it would have worked. Now lights like that are on everything. Just not a fan of lights that flow into body sides. Trucks have gone there now. All of them.

In above photo ... the 3 section rear bumper. 2 end caps painted and the middle long section chromed out. Is/was that factory ?? Or a add on ?? The stepsides with the 3 section back bumpers I have seen "normally" have all 3 sections painted. Correct ??

I’ve never been a fan of anything stepside except maybe a late 60’s Chevrolet. I got behind a 1st gen stepside Tacoma like in the 1st post yesterday and I got to admit, my mind was wondering with finding one and converting my double cab to one :D

Yeah they aren't everyone's cup of tea. And they really aren't that practical on a 1st gen if you need all the bed space you can get, but I'll be damned if they don't look good (to me anyway).

Some have chrome and some are painted. But it will be the same on front and rear. Mine is an '03 and is definitely stock.

Might be the only stepside ever that doesn't have a serious case of Hank Hill ass. Maybe it has a mild hint of Hank Hill ass , but not anywhere near as bad as a 90's ranger flare side.

Just to loop back around to the subject of this old thread...

The stepside was offered mid year MY2000 through the end of MY2003.

Roughly speaking, that's something like 540,000 total units sold during that period. I don't think there's any chance that more than 1 in 20 sold were stepside, and it's probably more like 1 in 50.

I'd guess that there were something like 10-20000 stepsides produce. Maybe even fewer than that.

Looking at Cargurus, there are 227 Tacomas for sale where the listings include pictures. Model years 2001, 2002, 2003 only.

Assuming this data set is a reasonable representation of the production for that period, I saw a grand total of THREE stepsides for sale.

    So that's 1 in 75.
Apply that to the 540000 estimated production, and that give you just over 7000 stepsides produced. TOTAL.

I gotta agree with you on the Tundras though. Those things look like they left the clay model in the sun too long or something, and the fenders/taillights melted.
