I can get you measurements but it’ll be later this evening when I get home. Shoot me a message so I remember.

FWIW, I pulled the measurements from Crutchfield. They are listed about 1/4 of the way down the page in the details tab. I do agree though that the height measurement is probably incorrect.

    EDIT:
I downloaded the owners manual and on page 137 it says the monitor is 9" x 5.125" x 1.125"

Thank you for finding this! That seems about right for the opening. It does seem strange, maybe because I don’t have it in my hand as there is always some framing around the screen. I wouldn’t guess a 9” screen to be 9” wide. I did a quick screen calculator for 9” with 16:9 and it comes to 7.8” wide 4.4” tall.

Thank you for the help. I am getting closer.

Your quick calculator is pretty close. The manual states that the effective display area is 7.75" x 4.375"

question, i already have sirius in my stock headunit and id imagine the antenna would be the shark fin.
do i still need to buy the adapter for the sirius aftermarket antenna?

and also theres no way to install a gps?
is it strictly through apple play?

What’s the difference between the 7600 and 6600? What made you guys get that and not the 8600?

My understanding is that the flush mount of 6600 is easier than 7600. My 6600 install went rather smoothly, it was not trivial but it was straightforward and there were no problems with the space behind it.

I believe the 7600 is meant for a floating faceplate so it has more beef in front. Which isn’t helpful for a flush mount install but could be needed for a different vehicle. I believe some who have flush mounted the 7600 had to cut the white plastic in the back of it to get a flush mount done.
The 8600 is a 10” and bigger than the 6600 and 7600 9” screens. Therefore it is not an option for flush mounting.

So the 6600 and 7600 is essentially the same except the 7600 is meant for floating? You think it’s easier to flush mount the 6600? What modifying had to be done for that?

I don't own a 7600 so I'm merely parroting what I've read on the main thread.

Here is a post I made with more detail on the bracket modifications I did for mine. Others have done the same basic thing but with a different approach.

For anyone else that wants the Radio to sit like mine, see the modified screw point in the picture below. If you modify the bracket point to be exactly like mine shown here, it'll sit nicely. Only the specified screw below needed a new hole, the one up top is OEM location. Once you do this, put some nuts behind the bolts that lock the radio in to push it forward, I only used one nut per screw to have it sit perfectly flush. This method is simple, fast, and doesn't require a lot of modification. More importantly, you keep the OEM brackets.

Check how other users have them set up as well, mine was more of a last minute quick mod that wasn't planned haha.

@daveeasa your bracket points are exceptional! https://www.tacomaworld.com/posts/24088191

Curious if you got this working and, if so, how it turned out. I am looking at the same setup for 2015. Based on specs in the owners manuals, there is only about .25" width difference between the monitor sizes of the 5500 and 6600, so I was thinking I could make a floating display fit the Metra bezel.

I have not been able to put more time I to it yet. I’ve been busy getting caught up on jobs and make a rack & cap before a big trip in a few weeks. I’m hoping to get it in before I leave.

since you have a 15 it looks like just so very minor adjustments to the bevel i mentioned before for the 5500 and the 6600 should sit in really nicely.

What’s the difference between Bluetooth and wireless Apple CarPlay? Do you guys use both. Prefer one over the other? And why? Just curious. I know many cars have wired apple CarPlay, but sometimes I just want to play music so I don’t connect it and just play over Bluetooth. Just wondering

Apply Car Play gives you your full function of your phone like eyes/hands free text messages, phone calls, and Navi. You can still make calls and play music over Bluetooth but that’s really the limit I believe. If you are using CarPlay there is no need to use Bluetooth. You have to disconnect CarPlay and connect to Bluetooth.

My personal daily preference is a wireless Care Play. It will make life and work a TON safer, efficient, and easier. Everyone will have a different take on that question.

@inkandhammer pretty much hit the nail on the head. Having the wireless Carplay/AA really makes it that much easier. I honestly never use the actual UI for the head unit itself as AA does everything I need. With how everything is integrated, it has become the perfect system for my preferences.

Navigation is the most significant difference for me. With wireless CarPlay you have the same convenience as Bluetooth but you can also have Nav. Granted I found etune nav usable even with an outdated map but it’s significantly better for me to have google maps and Apple Maps options for navigation.

my kids demand the “map” when in the car song with their song preferences.

also for anyone with a copilot, being able to swap from one device to the other for music and maps is rather nice. This is the only time I find wired CarPlay helpful because the switch is so easy vs navigating menus.

The only really question is it worth the extra $300 cost for you’re needs?

    @daveeasa

Makes another great point. Have the option for when we are traveling my wife can control everything while I drive and Vice versa which is one of my biggest issues. It will be really nice to not have to Mess around with phones looking things up and removing navigation from the screen

I have this same truck. Did you lose any functionality of the truck? There seem to be a lot of 'settings' that are manipulated through the original head unit for the truck. For example, when i first got the truck i wanted the unlock button on the key fob to unlock all the doors on one press, which was an option i could set for the truck using the original head unit.

    thanks
