Any update on the setup? ABS bleeding issues? Soft pedals? How are you guys enjoying the added braking power compared to the Stoptech setup?

@Boozng No issues with ABS bleeding on my FJ. I manually pumped mine to bleed and now using Russell speedbleeders on the Wilwood calipers. Not sure what you mean by soft pedal but these brakes are better matched than 5th gen 4runner DIY kits. Mine brake with so much ease. The only complaint is there's not a rear wilwood kit yet and there's companies that offer a rear BBK already

Ah...sorry for the confusion. I meant did the brakes engage once u applied pressure to the brake pedal, or did you have to press more for the brakes to engage.

Hard to say they engage. Its not touchy like a sports car. My truck is heavy AF so it takes some effort no matter what brakes I use. I had the 5th gen setup before and it was decent, some soft pedal but it stopped better than stock. The Wilwood if bled and bedded in well grips better. There is some softness but again I am running it on a heavy armored, 35's etc so anything is effort. I would be curious to see how its matched up to a stock one.

I can't compare it to stoptech as I have never had stoptech. But either way the Stoptech and Willwoods are both by companies that made brackets to fit them to the Trucks. The Wilwood kit I like in some favor since it used the 5th gen T4R rotors so it was an easy replacement if I need rotors or in a crunch I need to replace one to get back on the road. You also have a ton more options for rotors. I have a set of DBA4000 rotors I am going to install. With stoptech you pretty much only have Stoptech and Centric rotors available.

Initially I bled the front with speedbleeders and the rear but had issues on the rear setups so switched back to stop bleeders on the rear. I did a basic bedding process since I had existing Stoptech rotors but recently gave it a much better bedding process so got more grip.

I am curious on the Stoptech but I expect similar experience. The issue I am and most people will run into even with better stopping power will be the Master. All off road rigs have an electronic master and we are not able to upgrade it.

If you are running a sport (which I see you are) then you can upgrade to the Sequoia master which will improve it even further. You even have more of the option of doing discs in the rear (you can read up on that more as its hit or miss with folks) but the upgraded master is the last step to get more feel. When it grips it grips but the master will improve further.

Man, that is a lot of great information. I currently have on a front bumper, and soon, Ill have a rear bumper. The weight is slowly increasing. I plan on getting rear discs, and its nice to have that option. Good to know there are more options for the Wilwood setup. I would consider those as well. Thanks for all the info!

Sure thing. You can do the T4R setup then upgrade the caliper later on. The wilwood kit noted here is only the bracket and calipers. So nice transition.

Also know that if you DO do the rear discs that its a no going back setup. You need to cut or grind off the drums for the discs. I have a set in my garage and really only did not do it yet due to not being able to upgrade the master. I have talked with SOS and they noted it may just have a softer pedal and another guy running the stoptech setup front/rear said its a nice upgrade. As James mentioned with the Wilwood (RR Racing) or another company did the rear upgrade as well to we could match them. I may consider that since as long as I get more grip I am ok with some pedal softness as long as its not too much. The Disc setup for Tacomas uses TR4 5th gen rear rotors and calipers anyway so you would have a full T4R setup essentially unless you go BBK.

Ah...I will do some experimenting when I get back from my work trip. But first, getting all the part numbers together. Thanks!

Which setup? I have a whole thread on the T4R setup so all the work is done for you.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...unner-bbk-upgrade-for-2nd-gen-tacomas.504234/

Outside of that the Wilwood setup is on page 1 and SOS has a kit for the rear if you do that.

Looking at BBK options for my 3rd Gen Taco. What is the difference b/w the Wilwood BBK offered for Taco's and the Wilwood Aero6 calipers?

After reading the post, it appears the Aero6 calipers can use a slightly bigger rotor (327mm vs 338mm). Is there any other advantage?

Also, how does the external Dust Seals hold up with offroading?

    Appreciate any other feedback.

The big thing with the rr racing kit is it used T4R size rotors so it’s an easy find or upgrade if you already have t4r brakes. get in a ham that’s an easy rotor to replace. it is 338mm so decent and close to BBK territory. either could be a willwood kit but theirs looks to keep similar size factory rotor and adds more piston surface area to stop.

you could do the T4R swap and see how you like it. then upgrade to the wilwoods. The DS calipers have been great. The idea there is added external seals to keep the elements out of the pistons.

just to confirm: If I buy the RR racing Wilwood Aero6 DS kit with the 338 mm x 32 mm rotor, it would fit my 3rd gen Taco, correct?

I prefer the bigger rotor and this kit will cost similar to the Wilwood Narrow Superlite 6R
kit sold for Taco's on Summitracing.com for $1550.

What do you feel like is the biggest improvement with the Wilwood BBK? (better bite, stopping distance, less fade)

    Thanks

That’s the idea. 2 different calipers but I liked this for the larger and more available rotor and the external dust shield.

Where do you see the Aero6-DS kit on RR-Racing? All I see is 2010-2015 and 2016+ option.

It should be in the drop down menu when you select a model. You can still order non-DS or with-DS as far as I know

You may need to message them for the DS. I was up there for a bit but last time I looked it was not an option.

Revival. Has anyone talked to this company lately? I ordered a kit on the 21st after a few emails back an forth between us. I was advised lead time was a week so I emailed back two days ago just looking for a status. I haven’t received a reply and when I call them it goes to VM.

Was everyone’s experience decent through these guys?

it was a decent experience my calipers ended up. Wing back ordered and took a but but I got them. I believe it’s a small shop but they should get back to you.
