Lots of extra suspension parts if you have 2 rear ends of the same rig.

This is very old idea, when I was a child, my grandfather had a trailer he made out of the back end of the same model truck he drove. Painted the same colors.

Would be sweet if the trailer backup camera is wired in. The OE spare tire location is also convenient. Doesn't look like it has the OE rear axle though.

These have been popular in the car community for awhile. It's been said before that off-roading is the new tuner community so they're bringing along the culture with 'em I guess.

Let's just hope the hate and toxicity stays away.

Edit* The truck trailer would probably be significantly cheaper than those way overpriced offroad trailers: https://offgridtrailers.com/switchback/ (25K CAD!!!!)

Those off-road trailers are fully kitted out though. And as you know the stock Tacoma bed can flex and crack with too much weight on the bed rails. Equivalent functionality would be one of these flatbed shells, though if you put one on a truck trailer, there's not much of the original truck still left, except the rear half of the frame, hitch, and suspension.

Well, cheering from an audience speeds progress up 2x I am sure.

Sometimes I just tell my daughter to come with me to the garage to do whatever and tell her just to play around. That works for me as motivation.

Very true, just depends how hard and how often you're going to use it I guess.

Took advantage of the warm weather today to add a hardware bank angle inclinometer Sun Company P/N 308-M. It's intended for boats, so hopefully it'll withstand harsh temperatures.

Also put in @MESO's V2 dual-brightness dome light:

Everything including the normal dimmer behavior works as it should. Quality of the plastics and PCB look and feel as good as OEM. Cool honeycomb screen print pattern on the PCB!

i was contemplating adding a inclinometer to mine a month or so back, but then i remembered i drive a 3rd gen that has one built into the dash and have no need to an external one.

I've used the in-dash one long enough to feel like addressing its shortcomings - the 10-deg graduations are too coarse, and the update rate is too slow.

Eventually I'll get an Android head unit (like one of the Daisaita units... that I installed in my Subaru) and just run an inclinometer app on that. This $21 device will do for now. Placement isn't ideal (too low), but not many vertical surfaces higher up on the dash.

Some pictures of the tear down progress

Very easy to take apart, everything was lubricated, greased and covered in anti seize on the inside, so all bolts went smooth.

it was a good workout, but I am going to invest in a crane when the time comes to build it back. Next is cutting all brackets off and making it pretty.
