Shoot I haven’t gazed at mine in awhile.:anonymous:
Probably be worth to just switch them out before failure.
Didn’t know they redesigned the top hats
    Thanks for the heads up:hattip:

    Hey Rebecca!

It’s a common problem unfortunately and an old one. I’m not sure how long who they redesigned the top hats though so even people with newly purchased suspension should keep an eye out.

    Hey Sergio :fistbump:

yeah I knew it was a problem
One of our local guys snapped his top hat right in half, but he wheels like a maniac and breaks shit all the time :rofl::rofl:
I remember reading awhile back about the spacers on top as a reinforcement, was going to do that at some point, but life got in the way:D

@crashnburn80 ultimate brake upgrade today on my personal truck. Definitely worthwhile especially considering I had warped rotors.

Rotors and pads. Pretty straightforward, About $400 all in. It’s nothing like a BBK but here’s a good read that sold me on the kit:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/brake-upgrade-stoptech-rotors-trd-performance-pads.523829/

@crashnburn80 does a good job of backing up his claims with not only testing but also the science of the “why” and “how” in a way that’s easy to digest. He’s done it with his lighting threads so I have no problem reading along when he posts new threads.

That setup is by far the best bang for the buck. I later upgraded to a StopTech BBK for almost $2k and felt while it was better, it wasn't anywhere near $1600 better.

That’s the honest feedback I appreciate from you. I always tell my customers something similar: there’s always better, but it may not be better for your application.

If running crazy oversized heavy wheels and tires it may have been a different story, by every measurable metric they are better then stock, but with my lighter 32s I didn't feel like the wow factor was on par with the price point. The eye candy factor though was certainly there.

Were those just with the stock shackles replaced? I always look at that set up and wonder if I need the archive shackles as well

    My icons did the same.

Its a known issue, the tower flexes too much

Put a spacer on top of the tower to stiffen it.

I think its in my build thread

    Edit: page 6

I remember when it started happening to a lot of guys and the spacer fix. In this instance I don’t thing the spacer would’ve done anything to prevent it. Some of the breaks I had seen in the past were at the flat part of the top plate. Since my break was at the tower (because of the excessive flex) the flat base was unaffected.

Archive sells shackles too but in his thread, he mentions that the shackles aren’t an absolute necessity since they’re not the weak spot to begin with. I think he runs stock shackles with poly bushings in his personal truck, IIRC.

They’re an HD replacement for the most part. Archive is in their third version of these and I believe the newest set hang about the same location as stock. They have a second set of holes in them that allow you to move the hanger back about 1/2” which could accommodate different leaf springs lengths. You can see more about them here:
