I've searched and read about greasing AND I've tried adjusting the screws (which have some sort of epoxy on them by the way). Adjusting the screws didn't work, but holding the motor on its side with the glove box removed worked perfectly! I didn't want to try the grease (1. because it was still under warranty and 2. because others said it was a short term fix).

I was wondering if the replacement part had a 1 year warranty on it. I may call Toyota on Monday to find out.

Yeah, the screws might work because it rebalances the motor, but it's tricky because you might put drag on the motor and eventually burn it out. No matter what you do, it will be a short term fix: a warranty replacement will eventually make noise because of poor design, the screws may loosen again, and grease eventually wears away.

In case you haven't seen this one, this is the thread that worked for me, but if your under warranty, have them do it for free.

My truck has a higher VIN than those listed in the TSB; it chirped from about week 2, and had gradually gotten so loud conversation was impossible with the fan on low or medium. I went to my local dealer last week and they replaced the blower motor under warranty.

They tried to blame the chirping on pine needles. I park under a pine tree, so under the intake grill on the hood there are always a few pine needles - but that's why there's a filter in there, right? When I had the blower apart to look into the chirping problem about a month ago it was completely clean in there. Now this guy says 'it was full of pine needles, we figured that threw it off balance and wore the motor out early, but we were nice and replaced it for you anyway'. Yeah right - it was chirping a year ago when the truck was a month old; now the truck has a whopping 8,000 miles on the clock and the fan motor's worn out, but it's my fault because of a few pine needles that got by the filter over the past month? Thanks for insulting my intelligence and reaffirming my low opinion of this dealership. But at least my truck's quiet - for now.

I had the ticking noise too and tried adjusting the screws on the bottom. As soon as I turned them the noise would stop and then start again after a day or two. Couple weeks ago I took the fan completely apart and greased the sleave/bearing on the motor end. Plugged it in and didn't help although the noise is definitely coming from that end. I then took apart and greased the brushes where they slide back and forth in their slot and this has stopped the ticking. My theory is the commutator is slightly out of round and causes the brushes to vibrate back and forth in their (dry) slots and this is the ticking noise you hear. Only time will tell. I hope someone else could try the same thing and see if they get the same results.

I took mine to have the blower replaced from the TSB 0380-09 because of the chirp about two weeks ago. As I turned out of the parking lot, it started back. Dealer claims they have a newer tsb that is a sound insulation kit from 2010 in which they put a piece of foam to damper the sound I guess. Part #04009-46104. They are suppose to get a new blower now. What a waste of time. Mine always seems to be a balance issue as it is worse in turns.

I would have PM'd you but thought others would like to know what I found out.
Basically we're screwed. If the factory warranty runs out, there is no extension of any kind on that part regardless of how new it is. I said the part is obviously flawed and asked if I flat out purchased the blower motor today if it would come with a warranty and I never got a straight answer. The guy on the phone told me he'd have the manager call me back, that never happened.
I'm not too impressed with the Toyota dealerships near Salem, VA. The competition in Orlando, FL drove the dealerships to be competitive and they took care of their customers. Not the case in VA.

I hope my dealership helps me out. I called and talked to the only guy I deal with their who is a pretty standup guy imo. He looked up my records and said that he was going to talk to the mgr and see if they could get a goodwill replacement for me, basically doing it for free and treating it like warranty. He said the mgr would have to hear the chirp and they would go from there. I hope they can do it, cause if not I am gonna buy a aftermarket replacement and hope its better. The crickets are driving me mad!

Well mine is back after being replaced about a year ago(on a 2010). Yes it has turned extremely cold here in the south and is more noticeable. I'll have them replace again under warranty but I'm sure I'll need to tear it down at some point and lube as others have done on here. Not what I expect from Toyota. You'd think they'd actually find the problem and resolve with replacement motor.

My 2010 with just over 10,000 miles on it and the chirping started a few months back. Now it is ridiculously noisy. Another check mark for Toyota flaws. Just sad how a simple blower boggles my mind.

This is a perfect example of why I will not buy another Toyota in the forseeable future. My wife's 2001 Sequioa is BULLET PROOF! With over 146,000 miles and no troubles besides a few LED's dying and a rear door latch breaking. Everything else has been 'maintainance' type things.
My Tacoma has more issues in 39,000 miles than the wifes Sequoia in more than 100,000 miles more.

Wow. DrRabbitFurHead says it all. This is my first Toyota and I can only compare to 80's - 90's American Mades and Honda. It always the little things compared to the most catastrophic things. IMO. I guess that's were the corners are cut.

Has anyone installed an aftemarket blower motor? The OEM part is made by Delphi, and is a piece of junk. Seriously Toyota....your fix i to lodge foam into the motor casing for insulation? I'm wondering if an aftermarket solution is better than the Delphi piece of crap. autozone had one with a lifetime warranty for $96. I'm thinking of going that route.

I've had mine replaced under warranty last April and the chirping i coming back in less than a year. On my original unit I cleaned it and greased it, but the noise cambe back worse than it started within a month.

Not looking to beat a dead horse here but can't the bushing be replaced with a bearing? Or is it one unit? I just don't like the fact they haven't solved the original problem. They replaced with soon to be bad/noisy motors. If they can't fix something at this level out of cost concerns or redesign, I'd hate to see something more serious and how they handle that. ~Like the cutting of the gas pedal.

Its not the bushing. Its the brushes that make the ticking noise. Drop a couple drops of light weight oil or graphite on to each brush slot and spring and the noise will stop.

Thanks. Someone mentioned graphite too. I'll try that cause grease doesn't appear to fix.
