Wax

So there is much debate about the top rated vehicle wax, so I wanted to put it out to the forum and see what real tacoma owners use instead of the people behind a desk at car and driver or consumer reports. I have always been a maguiars user or zymol so I would like other owners real life recommendations

 

I've used a few products, but I like

$21 Collinite 845 Insulator Wax-Easy to Use Carnauba+Polymer Wax Sealant-High Gloss Shine+Durable Hydrophobic Beading & Long Lasting Paint Protection for Cars/Boats/Trucks/RVs & Motorcycles (16 fl oz)

Collinite 845. Holds up against the elements well and it does a decent job giving off that 'glow/warm' finish people like to see from carnauba waxes. Considering it's a cheaper wax, it holds up fairly well against slightly more expensive alternatives.

 

Carpro Cquartz Lite, it's held up well for a year on a truck that lives outside. They give you enough to do multiple cars (5-7), just be advised that at least in the jar they give you it will not hold on the shelf more than a year before starting to sludge.

idk too much about anything or waxes and brands. Maguiars liquid wax works for me. Might not be as good as the typical paste wax but my truck lives in the garage so didn't need ultra best of the best, just some added protection.

People ask me the same question all the time. But most folks don't understand that there are now at least 3 distinctly different categories of "things you can apply to your paint to protect it and give it additional gloss."

First, there's traditional "wax" products like Collonite 845. These are almost all Carnauba wax based and have been around for a long, long time. They offer decent protection, but can be removed in just one wash if you use the wrong wash products. Some of these - like Collonite 476S - can be a real bear to apply and remove. If you like the look of a traditional wax, but can put up with a relatively short life span, these are still the way to go.

Second, and moving up the scale a bit, are Polymer Sealants. These are synthetic base and in my experience, these tend to last about twice as long and go on / come off much easier. Some folks don't like the "Saran Wrap" look of the shine, but it's all personal preference.

Finally, there are Ceramic Coatings. These are the most expensive, hardest to apply, and longest lasting of the three categories mentioned here. They provide a very glossy surface, last years in some cases, and do a wonderful job of making dirt almost not stick to the surface. (Something the previous two categories do not do.) The downside is that a coating can cost upwards of $1,000 to have professionally applied.

So getting back to the OP's original question, are you looking for the best wax, sealant or coating? Then we'll get into answering the question of who's the most beautiful woman in the world.

 

Blue Coral. A bugger to apply. It will last about 1 summer in IA.

Chemical guys butter wax

 

I use Carpro Hydro II sealant. I get roughly 6 months out of it but my 08 Sport is not my daily driver. It's really easy to apply. Wash the vehicle (IMO paint prep is optional depending on the condition of your paint), lightly mist the product on one panel at a time and immediately hose off/rinse well, continue onto the other panels the same way until you are done, wipe the vehilce dry and buff.

I've used a very similar product (McKee's 37 Hydro Blue) for about a year now and I'm impressed with the water beading, gloss and ability to shed dirt. I have one area that I'm not so sure of though - protection. It's fairly easy to alter the surface chemistry of paint. It's not always the same thing as protecting it though. Never the less, I'll keep using it over my CarPro CQuartz UK ceramic coating.

 

I think the Turtle Wax ceramic hybrid stuff is great.

 

I been using the Maguire's hybrid ceramic in liquid form on my 2020 sr5 since I got it in July. I seem to like it and how it beads up water and how the truck stays clean. I use the quick detailer from the same line every few washes and will probably use the detailer over the winter after washing to keep up the coating.

I used mother's synthetic wax on previous vehicle and thought that was decent too. The hybrid ceramic wax goes on easier.

I never wax.

Heck, I barely even shave........

 

Yes that is the one. That's the same price I seen it at Walmart for. Don't get it at Advanced auto parts like i did.... I over paid 22.99
