Check between the pump and the reservoir. I've seen it leak there before.

That’s where it looks like it’s leaking from, but when I refilled the reservoir it and ran my truck it didn’t leak

Also check the power steering air control valve. That top palstic part blew off of mine one time and would spray fluid everywhere whenever you put the steering under any kind of load.

As someone also with a 2002 and a very frustrating ABS issue in the past, try using a paperclip to jump OBD ports 4 and 14, then turn ignition to on position. Count the times the ABS light blinks to determine the code. Lets hope you don't have a code 51 like I did...

If it puked all of the fluid over the engine bay though during a high stress moment like the other night then it'll probably happen again

    Definitely

i still don’t have power steering after I filled it, need to investigate more.

But I can still drive so it’s probably not as urgent in my mind as it should be.

    betting it’s the pump

It does not need to to be much lower, but it does contact the plastic cover on the cruise box. 95 v6

If it ends up being the pump don’t replace it, rebuild it instead. It's pretty easy to rebuild.

    Get this rebuild kit: https://www.toyotapartsdeal.com/oem...ion=vane-pump-reservoir-power-steering,,04446

This thread, https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/power-steering-pump-rebuild-how-to-with-photos.377002/ will show you how to do it. That thread is for a 4-cylinder pump, but it will show you enough to get it done. The 6-cylinder pump is actually easier because it doesn't have a bearing.

Yeah, just ugle behind the cab and there's one soft spot in front of the leaf hanger (which is getting chopped off anyway(

Sounds about right. Toyota left a lot of nice places for stuff to sit and rot back there.

Yeah, it is what it is. At least I only have to cut out 2", hell I'm going to chop more of the frame out just to recess in my new leaf hangers. I hammered the rest of the frame pretty good and it seems damn solid, it's not even flakey behind the cab, it's just rust colored. I wish there was a frame boxing kit designed like the DMZ fab one for the second gens, the 1st gens kits are ugly and the fitup is trash.

Thats about what mine was too, although my spring hangars were fine. I think it got salted early in life and started to rust, but then moved north enough to where there was no salt, and just continued to rust in places where there was dirt and gravel trapped.

That DMZ kit does look nice and avoids boxing it in so much that it can't be cleaned.

I got the code a few years ago and it was indeed 51. I haven’t checked since then and today was the first time the light wasn’t on and ABS actually functioned. I’ve played with the ground but that didn’t help. I’m not super worried about it at this point but it’d be nice to have the light off if I go to sell it...
