I heard about this too, but I am guessing their is no reason to start putting diesel engines in TACOma's which I think are fine how they are but Toyota is working with Izuzu and Catipillar to try and develop a really special Diesel to put in the new tundra's for supior towing and power over all the American sloppy Diesels out there, word is from my friend who eats sleeps and drinks American diesels and him and his dad own diesels say that toyota aready has their own diesel engine that they diesigned them self, that is suposed to be 5 to 10 times better power and economy than anything out their and let me put it this way they aren't happy about it, they are die hard american car company loyals who give me shat everytime they see my yota, lol. Dont hate the player hate the Game.

I wanted a D4D Tacoma (or Helix) DoubleCab 4x4 for the past 5 years. (I am a huge fan of Turbo Diesel and Bio-Diesel)...

I couldn't wait any longer to get a truck (my Jetta TDI had well over 200K on it, and I needed more room). So that is why I got my Tacoma.

Here is a thread where we talked about the D4D engine...

GM will be releasing a 4.5L Duramax Diesel in 2009 in the Chevy and GMC 1500 (half-ton) and the Hummer H2.

This engine will not be designed with Isuzu like previous Duramax engines. Instead GM will be designing it all in-house. It will provide 25-30% more efficiency than the current 6.6L Duramax Diesels.

Combine that with the lighter weight of the half-ton truck, and you get a vehicle that gets almost 29 MPG with TONS of power.

Want to know more... CHECK THIS OUT and THIS OUT about Ford and GM competition for a small block diesel truck...

toyota also owns parts of the yamaha group that made the heads on the old taurus SHO V6...and now isuzu...hmmm i think they are going to do something big... i had a toyota brand 2.2L diesel in a toy truck and it ran great...they also make a 4.5L v8 diesel in australia and one guy added a turbo off a stock duramax and made more Hp and torque then the stock 6.6L duramax did LOL

If (big if) I was going to buy an American truck I would probably go Dodge also.

Hold out for Toyota though. You have a killer Tacoma Pre-Runner in the meantime.:)

My 1st car was a dodge.....NEVER again will I put myself through that kind of punishment! There is a reason why most used car dealerships are overflowing with dodge trucks.

Yeah, the CAT theory is going around TundraSolutions.com - so is the Hino Theory, the Isuzu Theory, the Cummins Theory, and the in-house theory. I don't really care who make the engine as long as it isn't Ford/Navistar.
    ;)
I just vote that they hurry up and give me a diesel truck.
