BF Goodrich AT vs Goodyear Duratrac

Okay, I'm a ways out from getting new tires (probably next summer). I'll be doing 5100's around with the TSB and going with 265/75/16's.

I've had the BF Goodrich AT TA KO on my old Ranger forever and loved them. Went through 2 sets and got 60K miles each out of them. I live in snow country and have always been satisfied with the BFG's on snow. However, I do have a small image ego problem and love the look of the Duratracs.

I'm considering doing the Duratrac's on my new Tacoma, but learly. 55K tread life on the BFG's and only 40K for the Duratracs is hard to accept. Plus the Duratrac's are slightly more expensive.

Thoughts and recommendations on each tire? Anyone getting 50K+ on thier Duratracs?

Because my thread is now ripe with random bull shit that doesn't pertain to either tire.

 

I"m about 1/2 through that whole thread and haven't read a single comment relating to tread life or comparing one tire to the other. Hope there is some info coming soon.

 

ive never been a fan of goodyear tires at all, between the two bfg hands down

 

Any reasons against the goodyears?

 

granted i havent had a set of duratracs, but every other GY tire ive had never quite rode as smooth/balanced as well as anything else. in fact im about to get rid of the gy's on my wifes rx330 in about 2 weeks as theyve been balanced the best they can and it still rides as like the balancing is off - no the wheels arent bent.
for how much they cost i just think there are better options... but like everything else, everyone has their own opinion

 

All the feedback I've heard says the BFG ATs will last longer. The Duratracs have a more aggressive tread and softer compound...shortens tire life a bit, but they'll hook up better off pavement.

Most folks I've talked to get 40 to 45k out of BFGs with proper rotation/maintenance.

The few Duratrac owners I've talked to that are high mileage are saying 25 to 30 with proper care.

 

~60k on the BFG's on my mom's full size suburban (265/75/16) and still about 30% tread left. They're awesome in snow, sand, and on dry pavement. Very good in mud for an AT as well.

 

Thanks! Great info. That's a pretty big difference for me at 10-12K per year, that's an extra year or two of life.

 

I got the duratracs last winter with 38,000 miles on my truck and have ~55,000 and they have held up very well. I am expecting to get at least 45,000 out of them. They have done great in the snow, sand, mud as well as on the road. I drive a ton of highway miles with them and they are not that loud and make the truck look much more aggressive.

 

Anyone else getting 40K plus miles out of the Duratracs?

 

Had BF Goods on My 2003 zr2 S10. some light off road and 3 yrs of mixed driving did me good.
But a guy told me he had a nasty accident in his 1998 4 runner that had BF's on ....
the reason was the BF's had lost their square (edge of the tire had worn /and rounded off) i think they must have been off road a lot ... but he says that's why he lost control in the rain. So I would just keep an eye on them as this could prob happen with any tire in my opinion.

 

Yeah it's like that. When I made that thread, the Duratrac was brand new. Nobody had them yet. Now a few people have bought them and we're slowly starting to get life span reviews on them. After seeing them in person I was a little mixed in my feelings. They do feel much softer than the BFGs which concerned me for life span in comparison, and the sipes only went half way down the tread blocks.

 

I don't think the Duratracs have been out long enough for people to really wear them out yet. It may be another couple years before someone actually wears em out enough to give you an opinion of how long they last.



If BFG made the TA/ko in a c load range I would have gotten them.

 

a lot of variables are involved too. The type of driver, the terrain, etc etc etc.

the bfg 265/75r16 were 10lbs heavier per tire than the 265/75/r16 duratracs.

They do...that's what I've got on my truck. Have the snowflake rating too.

Dura trac may be lighter in weight if you get the 6 ply, i think the bfg are 10 ply,but you can get the dura trac in ten ply also,i just ordered a set of dura tracs ,i hope they get better then 35k miles,after having a set of Toyo M/Ts that gave me 72 K miles.
