I have a log splitter that splits vertically and horizontally. I use it vertically for the big rounds so there's a lot less lifting involved and being fir its splits nice and easy

I had a vertical splitter . It worked fine, but spent a lot of time on my knees manuvering wood. Traded it in on a Splitfire 32 ton horizontal unit with lifting platform (my trade, son in laws cash). Works much better with the splits at waist height. My yearly 5 cords, his yearly 15 cords.

My wood is a year ahead, sil's still to split for this winter.

This overburn situation is still an issue for us. I'm wondering if the combination of our interior space (ginormous) and our draft is such that it creates a venturi effect under certain conditions. Is that a thing?

I'm still burning strictly lumber scraps so far this year and likely have enough to get us through to Christmas so no worries about running out of firewood this year

    Sorry to hear that.
My disassembly and reseal has made a big difference for us. Much longer burn times. Wood is still left in the morning with embers ready to start up.

I have one as well, but it’s at my outdoor fire pit and has a cover on it. Wouldn’t work that well with the space I have indoors

Sounds like you need to invest in a damper for your chimney, then. Just a basic $10 cast iron swivel unit that fits in the steel section above the stove should do a good job of cutting down on the draft. I use one in my chimney for the same reason; 25 feet of stack pulls hard. Once the stove is lit and the chimney's warmed up I set the damper at about 75% flow and it keeps the chimney from sucking too hard.

We did get the hoop last year at Tractor Supply for like 40 some dollars. We bring wood in with a wheel barrow, 3 loads, and We Really Like it.

Built a kindling chopping stand out of an old miter saw with a bent arbor, and welded together pieces of an old bed frame. It is ugly as hell, but I can continuously cut my endless supply of perforated furring strips without having to bend over to reset.

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
No joke -here Please for your sake - DO NOT cut anything on that saw except LUMBER scraps. It will be tempting as your firewood looks to be right there by your kindling supply
I know for a fact the mitre /crosscut saws are built for lumber NOT firewood pieces you cut from live or dead trees. I tried this and a twist in the grain of the FIREwood caught in the blade and twisted and flew away while catching my finger and the saw fence on the way out. My finger recovered after awhile , but the saw needed a new fence. Scared the hell out of me and convinced me to never try that again. That flying piece of wood and the saw fence could have hit me in the face or somewhere else doing more bodily harm. I was trying to make some smoker chips from some wild cherry firewood I had cut.
good luck with your kindling cutter!!

Thanks for the concern. Yes, it will only be used for scrap lumber like 2X4 and furring strips.

Just made another trip to my secret free kindling supply. There's a cabinet shop that sets out ripped trim pieces 8'-10' lengths 1/2-1" thick 1"-6" widths in bundles of fir, maple, walnut, pine, oak and other species and everything is Kiln dried so it burns awesome. The 461 with a 32" full skip does quick work cutting the full bundles. Of course some of the stuff is just too nice to cut so its being stored for future projects. Nice looking wood. Almost seems a shame to use that stuff for kindling.
