    Group !

    I have a 2007 Tacoma (007 Taco Pro)

its unique build can be found here

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/007-taco-pro.527692/

Basically the truck got a new fame and LOT of other parts but the motor has 436000 km + on it and i just had to do some major surgery to it ( NO.1 coolant outlet pipe) and has me thinking should i try and find a extra motor Trans for when this one goes ?

I have a friend who has a 05 T4R that had a new motor out of a 07 tacoma put into it.

he is willing to part with it for cheep $500 ish . Mileage is unknown, he drove it trans is leaking from somewhere.

    My questions

I need to make sure this is motor and trans is the same ( I am pretty sure all 4.0L are and there was only the a750E auto for it)

I never pulled a motor out of a 2nd gen is there any info out there on the process.

just trying to keep the 007 Taco Pro alive

The 4.0L are all the same engine and only ever had the one trans behind them.

i thought the 2012+ motors have different head castings with ports for Secondary Air Injection on the exhaust side..?

There is the single and dual VVT-i versions. The single was the only one in the Taco

Indeed. According to a gentleman who I believe knows quite a lot about the trans in Tacomas:

    Link to that post here.

I'm not really sure what you're trying to communicate there. It may very well be due to my own ignorance. Can you show me some examples of Toyota shipping a different 4.0L engine in a Tacoma, or with a different auto trans attached to a 4.0L engine in a Tacoma?

Jeez! From the transmission man himself. There are 3 different year ranges of Taco trannys. They will all bolt up and look the same on the outside, but they are different internally. As far as the engines, it has already been mentioned about the air injection ports starting in 2012.

Thank you for stooping to my intellectual level. I hadn't considered that revisions would be considered a different part despite being swap-compatible, or that heads were enough to consider an engine to be distinct.

The transmissions are not “swap compatible”.

bit of a longshot idea but my 2013 was just towed out of my driveway after a rollover accident in October. 4.0L, 6M, 125k kms, runs perfect and was well maintained. impact auto in London, ON has it now. maybe you could call them and have the motor pulled and shipped? good luck.

So... they don't all bolt up the same? I can't swap an a750 from one 4.0L Tacoma into another?

03-04 4Runner 1GR will swap in, but intake cam gears from newer Tacoma engine will need to be swapped over.

05-08 or 09 4Runner engines are the same as 05-11 Tacoma engines. Direct swap. 09+ 4Runner engines will not swap with an ecu swap to a dual VVTI ecu.

07-09 FJ Cruiser engines can be swapped.

12-15 Tacoma engines have different heads with holes for the SAIS system than the previous models. Valve covers need to be swapped and headers with attention to header-to-head gaskets must be paid.

Oh, you can bolt them in, but they may not shift right or they may blow up and grenade all the insides, but hey, I’m no transmission expert. I just stayed at a Holiday inn once.

    So my Tacoma 2007 with 436000km ish ..... it has a single vvt-I v6

The 2005 t4r that has what I was told is a 2007 v6 Tacoma motor put in it with 122000km

    Should work :)

Is it true they take different oil filters ? Think I read that

If not how can I identity the difference between the single and dual ?

Thanks for all the awesome information and help

I see. Thanks for the education. I suppose with enough money and time, anything is possible - what's required to put a different series trans in, then? ECU and TCM? I don't want to derail OP too much, is there a particular writeup somewhere on the process?
