Well I apparently suck with a hammer. I spent a few hours trying to get the CV out to replace the needle bearing, but I never succeeded and have given up. I was about to reassemble everything, but now I have this clicking when I spin the axle.

Is the axle not seated all the way or did I screw up big time?

Might not be seated all the way. For removing the axle, I’d recommend clocking it a couple degrees at a time and using a pry bar. I’ve done this several times and there seems to be a sweet spot where the axle will just pop out with little force. It has to do with the c-clip position in relation to the needle bearing. Which coincidentally might be the cause to the noise you’re hearing. Don’t give up, just keep turning the axle while you try to remove it.

Get a heavy pry bar from HF and really lever that thing out of there. I had a problem with mine and just about gave up but a buddy told me to really give it a shove...I was being too gentle with it.

you’ve got a c clip in there to overcome

Can’t tell where the clicking is coming from. Is it the diff or the CV joint? There is a snap ring that needs to be seated. The CV should be snug against the diff.

Alright, I’ll give it another shot.

With the pry bar, are you guys hammering it or prying between the axle and using the frame as the fulcrum? Because I did try to pry it and the pry bar started flexing.. I’ll try rotating the axle and see how it goes.

I first hammered but could not get enough room. I then pried but wasn’t using enough force.

A DIY-er can pull the CV in the driveway. If the clicking is coming from the diff, I wouldn’t drive it, but that’s me. Try again tomorrow. Good luck.

I had to lay under there and really hit the back of the pry bar with a sledgehammer, and I mean really hit it. Everyone is correct, dont be gentle. I spent over an hour pissed off that it wouldn't pop. Then after a few good solid smacks while rotating it just popped out.
It sucks, be patient and don't be gentle.

Also when removing the needle bearing be very careful that it doesn't leave fragments behind, examine the entire bearing and make sure nothing chipped or cracked off. Mine did. And I spent a long time feeling around inside the rubber seal picking out 4 pieces of the old bearing.

Thanks for all the help y’all. Got it all buttoned up today. Cold chisel and a larger hammer did the trick. It was a total bitch and I need to go to the gym more or something... fingers crossed the test drive tomorrow goes well.
