Not really. I deal with a lot of stuff that's way more important and critical than a rear differential and there is a clear difference between a seep and a leak.

To be fair how often do 3 year old vehicles seep from the diff??

I cant think of any and it ever really being a issue in the 6+ different vehicles i've owned.

You may do work but a gasket is designed to keep fluid. if fluid is getting past a sealed surface what is that called... a LEAK. warranty

Was yours on the recall list?
If it was not on the list then I'm guessing dealers are doing what they want to do.

Well I went down yesterday and all they'd do was re-torque and checked the fluid level, which was full.
I agree that anything past the seal is a leak.
I’ve never had anything like this on any other vehicle and if I was buying something I'd call that at leaking difference gasket.
I'll try contacting corporate and see if anything comes of it, I did pay for a 6 year/125k warranty, and that's a classic manufacturer defect.

Note: I originally noticed mine weeping back in August of 2019 so my dealership replaced the gasket and resealed mine because it looked like this.

After a full year it looked like this again so I took it back and they did an inspection of the oil level and told me that it wasn’t leaking but it was just residual oil from the gasket and sealing process (I was very suspicious that they were just blowing me off) so I took it home and gave the area a thorough cleaning and took a wait and see approach.

4 months later, this is how it looks today ... still dry and clean.

I’m going to hit it with some brake wash later this week, take pix and see home it goes.

Either way, a seep is just a very slow leak.

I agree, there shouldn’t be any oily spots whatsoever and I fully expected to see more seepage/stains when I looked at it this morning but to my pleasant surprise, completely dry! 4 months and no seepage so far. BTW, I didn’t want to use any strong cleaner/degreasers on mine so I used some simple green extreme to clean it and it did a great job

Wonder if the repair some of you are getting is nothing but a douse with brake cleaner and a nicely typed creative service report to make you GTFO

mine had the small damp spots around the flange. Re_torqued the nuts a little over a year ago. Cleaned it up. Checked it a few weeks ago, it had some minor weepage around one of the upper studs/nuts which is kind of strange, being up so high. Mine is good to go now.

At this point with this dampness I am on the fence with porosity. Pits or defects on the machine mating surface of the castings.

If it was a leak, it would take a hundred thousand years to lose a teaspoon at that rate..

Mine looked like op's. I checked the torque on all the bolts and cleaned it with brake cleaner, it's never come back.
