Alright I'm hooked, bought 190 shares of Gevo this morning at 2.71 and we're at 2.94 with an hour of after hours trading left. First time playing with stocks, could see how it could get addicting.

 

Wait until you decide you want to try options. That's the real casino

 

yeah, ima steer clear of options and margin accounts. i like it keep it simple.

 

So looks like our stimmy checks should be coming out in the next couple weeks. Try and start this Jan 15th?
Probably need to post proof of your deposit into your brokerage if you want to play. After that I guess we're on the honor system. Run it Jan 15th - April 15th?

Any limits to types of trades? Maybe make it so you have to invest in stuff you currently have no holdings in?

I’m in but I think we should make it a regular thing too. Every 6 months or quarter we do a 100$ challenge or something.

Good point, if the market tanks and people aren’t good with options, you’d win with a little dividend income.

 

I think that's a fair risk. If someone wants to load up on sideways moving dividend stocks and win by getting a $3.00 pay out, that person deserves to win lol

 

I’d say options only to put a little pressure on the players and make it interesting.

No, I get it. The main reason I don't really want to limit it to just options is cause there's people that want to play who don't really trade options much. I'd feel kinda shitty if we forced someone to trade on something they didn't really understand and lost their $600 in 25 minutes.

Here's how my day went.

God damnit FDX.

I'll buy more HCAC. I know own 1000 shares. 500 of those I wrote Jan 18 $25 covered calls on. They approved the merger with Canoo today and filed the 8 k with the SEC. The new company will start trading very soon. Maybe even tomorrow. New ticker GOEV. Keep an eye on it.

CRSR is up 3%. Cool. Maybe I'll turn a profit on those Jan 15 $35 calls in my play account. I also think it's a long term hold type of company. So I pick up 500 shares for my IRA.

Then I look at QS. In my IRA I have 10 Jan 15 $60 calls. Premium was $17.35. They've been down for two weeks. Today it jumps 8% at open. That brings me back to even. Then I go to work.

At lunch I look up my account and my IRA is way, way up. I smile and look at why. QS is up 25%. WOW. I had a feeling they'd rally but not by that much. They closed 28.7% up. That made my loosing option play now a 98% return option play. They are up another 9.5% after hours.

FDX reminded me that big things happen fast in bad ways with options trading. QS reminded me that big things happen fast in great ways in options trading. lol

It's official. HCAC/Canoo start trading tomorrow under GOEV. My brokerage has already changed the ticker in my account. This should be a fun ride.

 

Just unloaded 6 of my 10 QS JAN 15 $60 calls. 245% return. My IRA likes me again.

I also tried to set a trailing stop on the last 4 option. E-Trade won't let me for some reason. The only time I've run into this issue before is with OTC stock. QS is not OTC so I have no idea. Don't have time to call them so I'll deal.

GOEV jumped to $24.90 at open. It's down $3.00 from that high now so it'll be interesting to wee what it does today and tomorrow.

 

I cannot set trailing stops for options on TD either UNLESS I use thinkorswim...but once they are set it screws up the "view orders" for the web interface. It displays an error page until the order expires or I cancel it via the app or ToS.
I contacted customer service and they said it's a known issue and they're "working on it"....
