Hi all, I'm having an issue with noise in reverse gear similar to this. I think it is due to my dumbass trying to downshift instead of breaking like a normal driver over the last month. Do you guys know any good shop in the Bay Area that I can trust with this issue? I don't think I can trust the dealership TIA

Seems like the resolution in the thread you posted was a squeaky ujoint. Have you inspected them and greased what you could?

 

Did you get your cardon joint fixed?

 

Not yet. Tore it down and the needle bearings in the center ball joint thing were gone... lack of grease I think. Everything else looks like it’s in great shape.

I have parts on order to rebuild it. I am also going to get a whole new driveline from Tom Woods and keep this one as a spare.

I called high angle but he wanted to build me a $1400 driveline (which is almost half of what I paid for the rig...) and is probably bullet proof but I don’t wheel that hard. Tom Woods was about 1/3 the cost.

I also went to K&M (in Modesto) and he also suggested high angle so he must build some great stuff. Just a little out of my price range atm.

 

Tow Woods is great. They are some of the best costumer service in the industry and their work is top notch. Both my front and rear are from them. Nothing but good things to say. Last month when I sent them my rear shaft to replace the double cardon they received it from UPS on Wed morning. It was rebuilt and back on the UPS truck WED evening. lol

My brothers and dad are all running Tom Woods and have similar feelings.

Tom Woods recommended a 1310 cv while High angle/km suggested 1350.

More angle out of a 1310 but not as strong... km guy though the Toyota cv I’m running is stronger than 1310. Not as rebuildable though. So -1 on strength but +1 on parts rebuildablility( a word?).

 

Just topped off that Green Spot. Yumm. After a long day of playing with wood. I take back anything bad i said of my ryobi. Got a new chain and it did some damage. How often do you change them? I started cutting into some pecan i believe and it dulled it quick. My ryobi splitter is the shit! P.s. dont stand in front of it as your son splits. They spit out hot! Lol. Gained a few more scars. My body is so fucked

 

You can sharpen the chain. Or take it to a shop and let them do it. I’ve found a chain can last a long time or no time at all. Just depends on what you’re cutting. I have two and keep sharp the chain I’m not using.

 

I file or grind my chains. I can file small chainsa about 25 or 30 times before I need a new one.

 

I've never seen the actual specs for Toyota OEM U-joints so I have no idea how much stronger they are then the 1310. The 1310 is the most common u-joint on the market though. It's what I run in my shafts. It's cheap and easy to replace. Most buggies will run the 1350 as it is a lot stronger. For what you and I do the 1310 is plenty. I carry 2 spares in my rig just in case but I've never had to use them. I've broken a lot of shit in my rig but never the u-joints. lol
