Getting ready to Wire up a aftermarket led light kit for 2017 Tacoma bed. Can I tap into the taillights for main power. If so, please advise on what wire and what after effects will it give to the taillights. Thx

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
    Need a bit more information.
Are you also installing a switch?
If not, do you want the bed lights able to go on ONLY when the taillights are on?
Do you have a factory trailer package?
If so, perhaps you can tap the battery terminal at the 7-prong connector. You'll also have power to the bed lights, BUT if you forget to shut them off it could be a problem.
The factory bed lights in my 2021 TRD OR AC are wired into the rear dome light circuit.

Wiring straight into the taillights won't allow you to turn them on off or anything. They'd be annoying riding down the road with them on at night

I would be installing a switch. I also have a factory trailer package in which I don’t want to run wires down there. Thoughts?

what if I put a switch in between? Will it dim the tail light? Also what color wire will I be tapping into if I did from taillight?

    Consider:
You'll only be able to turn the bed lights on when the parking or headlights are on.
What differences would it make if the did dim the tail lights? You're most likely gonna be stationary.
I was suggesting tapping into the trailer harness under the truck.
My '06 cap dome light was powered by the tail light circuit - I hated it 'cuz I had to be sure the lights were on to use the cap's dome light. PITA!
