Bilstein 5100 bushing replacement

Anyone ever had any luck replacing the lower eyelet bushings on a pair of Bilstein 5100s? Mine are only a year old and I just need to replace the bushing.

 

Tons of places offer the bushings for like a few bucks.

 

I can't find them anywhere. Called Bilstein and they're no help. I have the b8 5100s. Maybe I'll try these:

 

you are lucky. My Icon lower bushings cost big $ and I am angry about it. Wish I had stock struts.....

 

It helps if you have the size you need.

It is not that hard ( for Me) to get the round stock and make your own

I needed to replace the lower set on some Fox shocks because the inner diameter was smaller than needed for my truck; found them online for the size I needed.

they don’t use standard spherical bearings like all of the other coilovers on the market? Those are like $15 each

Performance coilovers don't use bushings in the bottom they use

$15 com10 aurora COM-10 COM series 5/8" ID X 1.19" OD mono spherical ball bearing

com10 spherical bearings, they're like $15 each. Unless you mean the labor to get them sent out and replaced, but it's easy to DIY and save the money. Just push the old bearing out and push the new one in, c clamp and a socket works well

 

Silicone spray is your friend makes putting them in easy.

Cleaning the dirt out is a must .

Did you forget something the bushing failed so quick ??

 

No anti-sieze on the strut bolt, so the bolt seized to the inner bushing sleeve. When I went to loosen the bolt it took the bushing with it and tore it in half. One step forward, two steps back.

 

Wow that is a big help. I did not know they are called spherical bearings. Thank you. Icon wants 60$ each. I think the ones for 15 you showed me on Amazon will work. Again THANK YOU!

Honestly, $60 for the full kit (both sides) doesn't sound so bad. Keep in mind those $15 bearings are just part of it, but if you source the misalignment spacers and snap rings yourself you can probably come out cheaper than the kit.

I was able to reuse my misalignment spacers when I did mine

 

I've heard making your own poly bushings isnt that hard, especially if you can pour directly in rather than a mold. You just need to extract the center pins from your existing bushings

 

Do not replace lower eye bushing with Moog bushing. Super squish immediately. Not sure if oem toyota bushing will fit.
