If I have my headlights on when its raining and such the radio is too dim, the only adjustment I've seen to brighten is the one near the speedo and that still doesnt make it bright enough. Is there any other adjustments ? Note: skimmed the owners manual and didnt see anything.

    Thanks

I’m interested in the answer to this too. I have the exact opposite problem. Mine is way to bright!

In your display settings I believe there’s a “daylight” mode. Give that a try. The Speedo adjustment knob won’t change the radio brightness.

Yep, go to your display settings on your headunit while the lights are on and you'll have a daytime display option you can check. It's kind of annoying to need to do this everytime it's not dark enough outside for the interior to dim that much, but at the same time I guess it would be annoying to unchecked it all the time too.

Well shit learn something new everyday! Nice! I guess we are not worthy of a sensor that could be mounted to the review mirror to determine the amount of available day light. But thanks for the post for sure......this pisses me off all the time.......now I am calm! For real good post!

press menu, then in the bottom right part of the screen there will be a button that says display settings where you can adjust brightness and other stuff. Changing the display theme from the menu page helps too, I went with the Blue/black theme because I thought mine was too bright and didn't want to do the day/night mode every single time, you might want to go with one of the white themes....

I still get blinded every time the back-up camera comes on at night though, It's pretty stupid Toyota couldn't figure out how to dim the display with the gauge cluster.....you know like just about any other vehicle built since gauges and radios were invented lol.

i think op is talking about during the day but, when it’s over cast.

Are you talking too bright at night ? If so, I share your problem at night too.

Ive found some dim settings in the head unit and have gotten some of that tamed down.

But, I wish I could get the dash lights dimmed down lower than the lowest setting.

And the most annoying thing is the bright blue D in the center console.
Trying to figure out how to burn that stupid bulb out.

6MT took care of that one for me lol;) I agree though I wish I could dim everything a lot more at night. Those lights are hard on my eyes after driving at night for more than 3-4 hours.

There are only 2 things I truly dislike about my Tacoma. Lack of a light sensor to control the dash/radio brightness and how insanely stupid tall the reverse gear is in the 6MT. Who at Toyota thought someone would need to be able to back their truck up at 35mph?

Thanks guys, just catching up on thread but yes my main issue is its too dim when I need lights on during the day (rain/overcast etc). I'll search for menu setting on radio, must have not looked hard enough before

I believe that it’s kind of hidden in with the camera settings.

I believe the setting doesn't exist unless the lights are on at the time you look for it. I haven't bothered with it in a while, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't stay on either once you turn off the truck (stop for gas... gotta turn it back on).

Edit: It does stay on and now thanks to @CrazyAirborne, I very fondly remember this is why I stopped using the setting (getting blinded when it's actually dark was not fun).

The bright/dim settings are adjustable and do not have to be reset each time you start the truck.

Edit: And I might add, both daytime and nighttime brightness settings are adjustable independently of each other

I sometimes like to drive with my running lights on during daylight hours and notice this as well. Radio becomes super dim. You then check the box on the radio settings, the next time you drive it at night, you will have to uncheck that box or else your radio will be bright like the sun. Theres no winning.
