No, although I will say my transmission shifts much better than my 2016 did. My 2020 has rear diff whine/howl which my 2016 actually did not have. This is quite disappointing.

    Nope. Scooped hoods don’t vibrate.

1- If the engine is cold, yes the idle is higher and it may seem to launch. Press brake pedal firmly

2- The hood is not cheap. There is adhesive that binds the frame to the hood sheet and may need to be re-applied. Warranty should apply

3- Transmission shift pattern may seem erratic in the first 1500-1800 miles. The ecm is trying to ascertain or adopt to (new) transmission components wear levels. You can use S4 for most around town driving and ect for an enhanced engine response.

Coming from a 2017 OR to a 2021 OR, identical stock truck with the same tires so I have a decent apples to apples comparison to the older ones in this generation. Just got it so I’m still finding slight differences.

    1) That is normal, but my 2021 engages faster. The 2017 had low transmission fluid when I first got it, which was resolved but still didn’t engage as fast. I suspect programming differences. The lurch is more due to higher rpms in colder weather when it engages the gear.

    2) 2017 had this, adhesive needed reapplied as a warranty fix. My 2021 doesn’t have this issue although I won’t be surprised if it happens

    3) The shifting on the 2021 is much better than my 2017, which did have updated factory software. I do notice the transmission is “learning” the more I drive it, but I do not use the ECT button at all when I would somewhat frequently in the 2017

I just dropped 40k on a brand new truck, they should fix it. I'm going to be getting the most out of my warranty and not spend a dime or moment of my time trying to fix anything myself until the warranty is up.

My 2018 non-scooped hood vibrated. I fixed it with bonding adhesive made for vehicles.

My 2019, scooped hood, did not vibrate.

My 2021, non-scooped hood use to vibrate, as I fixed it also.

Look under your hood at the bracing and you can see where the factory bonding adhesive comes loose, allowing the hood to vibrate.

From what I recall, some people used RTV on the underside of the hood to bond where the cutouts are separate from the actual hood surface. I don't really have this problem but others I guess do and apparently it helps.

It is all in the AT programming that Toyota has yet to properly fix. The TC has three modes: unlocked, slip lock / partial lock, and locked. So, it can do quite a dance while still being in just one gear.

The center of the hood on my '93 T100 has been 'loose' since it was still under warranty. It's been a common issue on some Toyota vehicles over the years. I've heard of solutions such as wedging something between the under-side of the hood to the brace to 'gluing' it with adhesive. It's never bothered me enough to do anything about it. I've never noticed if the non-scooped hood on my '20 Taco does it or not.

I have a month old '21 TRD Pro.

    1. I've never noticed this.

    2. I've never noticed this either.

    3. I have noticed. Especially highway driving. Had a road trip over the weekend, there were instances where my truck did not want to down shift. I did just cross over 1,000 miles, so I will keep an eye on it.

I am hoping so, if they try to give the runaround or don't come through correctly, I know I can always do it myself.... but they have actually been very good and responsive and non-combatative at my dealer for doing warranty work on my old tacoma.... so will give them the benifit of the doubt and see what they have to say. Appt set for 2 weeks from now on account of needing the truck for various thing from now til then, but will update this post for sure with what ends up happening then

Just an update incase anyone stumbles upon this thread. Had an appt today at the dealer to look at this hood issue. They said they have seen it before and are aware of the issue. They scheduled me to come back next week and drop the car off and are giving me a rental for 3 days while they fix it.

They said it is going to the body shop portion of the dealer and that they are going to disassemble the hood, scrape off all the old adhesive, apply new adhesive, and put back together. They also said it will take 3 days because there is a painting component to the fix. So... hopefully they are taking care of the issue correctly and know what to do... time will tell!

    Another Problem

This is an interesting thread. I will certainly be watching for any of these issues that are mentioned on my '21 OR LB 4X4 AT. I haven't noticed any of them so far.

I have another issue. I tried to program the Garage Door Opener. I used the process described on p. 383 in the '21 Tacoma owners manual. It shows the rearview mirror which has 3 buttons. 1st step is, "press and release the Homelink button you want to program and check that the Homelink indicator light flashes orange." My mirror does not have 3 buttons. It has only 1 which is labeled, "Auto." If I push that the mirror indicator says, "C." Push it more and it scrolls through 1,2,3....15. Nor orange flashing light. The vehicle will not pair up with the garage door opener (older Chaimberland/Liftmaster) and nothing happens. I went to the Homelink web site; same description as the owners manual. You Tube videos, also the same. Nobody talks about this single button, "Auto" mirror. The old garage door opener pairs with no problem with our old '06 Highlander, BTW.

I think I am missing something here and I am frustrated because the manual doesn't show it as it looks on my truck. Any suggestions? I will try again tomorrow

Im having the same issue with a non-scooped hood on my 2020. I brought it into the dealer about 2 months back and they said they need to get it approved by corporate and theyll notify me (which they never did) but after seeing the repair work you mentioned im kind of glad i didnt get it done as my experience with dealers has never been good, I cant tell ya how many times i've brought my Jeep Wranglers into the dealer to only have it returned with issues or poor quality work. ive had cable looms not secured after engine work, brake line anchors snapped, stripped bolts, bolts not torqued properly, interior dash clips broken during air bag recall, leaking gaskets, poor riveting work in soft top structure for repair... the list can go on lol. i hope Toyotas more capable. Please post your results so i can feel better about getting it done lol

Mine also only has 1 button. That auto button. That button is for the auto-dimming rear view mirror. I dont think my tacoma is equipped with a homelink button.... and from the sound of it, I dont think yours is either.... I just have my garage door clickers on my visor

I will take some before/after pictures and see how they do. I havent ever had an issue with my dealer, so I have some hope they'll do it correctly.

My 2017 OR hood does not vibrate. But try driving a Ford at highway speeds. Those hoods always seem to flutter in the wind for some reason.

Sounds like you have the standard non-Homelink Mirror. I just bought a new Gentex mirror from Bob's Mirrors to add that capability and will hopefully get it installed later today.

This is so true...Had 3 fox body Mustangs over the years and the hoods all shook like crazy. Even my 2007 GT500 hood shook.
