Yes you connect the brake light wires to this

 

Does this connect to the existing brake light they provide or do we need to hack it?

 

Here’s a better picture of the harness. It will probably make more sense. You connect the brake light wires from the SP to the red/black wires of the harness so you don’t have to splice into the OEM wiring. The harness goes in between the brake like plug and the vehicle harness.

 

Wow, for what it is $25 isn’t too bad. I spent $5 on my positaps and 30min figuring it out though haha

I wired mine to work same as running lights, as well as a third brake light.

That makes much more sense, I couldn’t figure that out from the thread. Doesn’t look like there’s a way to wire it as a running light though, unless that’s somehow incorporated in there

 

Last I saw, the 3rd brake light is the same as what I bought and use mounted on my bike rack. I have it wired up to a 4-pin trailer harness connector and it works as a running light, brake light AND turn signals... Can you post close up photos of yours as well as the wires coming out of the back of it?

 

Here is how I wired mine, obviously had to put some extensions on it to get the leads down the the taillight housing. The Positap holes are minuscule and easily covered up after

 

Oh I meant a photo of the brake light on the SP. That light looked the same as what I have on my bike rack, which I have wired up for running lights/brake/turn/hazard.

ah good eye. it is getting close on the 2nd gen.

 

The SP third brake light is also a running light. This harness won’t work, unless you’re only looking for illumination when braking.
The posi tap method is not much more effort then this plug and play thing.

 

So for aftermarket rails to fit you will somehow need to move the t channel down in the bed by the delta of height reduction. My rails hadn’t arrived from voodoo yet anyways so I just went with it.

Ultimately on the factory rails I’m still under my 6’9” limit so I’m not going to hassle with changing at this point.

I have my laser ruler and can get some cab overhang measurements later.

Yes and if you could mock that panel, or just measure the width of the camper between the rails that would be great. I wanna see how I can fit a panel up there.

Thanks for the update. I was worried about this slightly disappointed by this as well.

 

I bought that frame boxing kit @JasonLee . We'll see how it goes. Doing long Baja trip in May and I see they got some crazy unmarked speedbumps so I wanna reinfoce this girl.

 

candidly I think the easier way to manage it would be to trim down the interior flange. If you’ve got a chalk line and a steady hand I bet you could modify it somehow.

 

yeah thats what i am thinking maybe ill bring a grinder/cut off wheel honestly i think trimming that inner flange will have to go.

 

Word. Yea I just don’t know what kind of structure is in the bed to move the t track down so the grinder might be best.

I’ll cross that bridge if my caps start to warp someday.
