Bolt lamps came in today... I'm running the MESO TTL Stage 1 kit BTW, so the reverse lamps are bright!

Nice! Mind getting a picture from behind? You can cover your plate with a piece of paper or something if you want.

It would not. I think one could be made that would though, but I am not positive. Do you have the towing package?

I think it can be done with the 2nd gens that have the tow package, but I haven’t had a chance to look at one yet. It’s on my to-do list

Just a daily update: I updated the first post, but it now says go to Dave’s thread here https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/license-plate-light-disable-while-in-reverse-dir.707546/ to get on the current list. I will be finishing up the ones I have, and should be reaching out to those who signed up that I can fill in the next couple of days.

Feel free to post any questions or reviews! The first few should be arriving shortly, I’d love some feed back :)

    Hey, Johnny and @daveeasa .

I have really been enjoying the harness. There is the briefest moment when the camera turns on and the relay activates where I can see the glare go away. Just excellent.

    Thanks!

Thanks @Puppypunter this thing is awesome and so well thought out... The nut to mount the relay is 10mm which means I only needed one tool to install it.

    Super quick install.

As with any time your removing the tail lights, make sure it's not too cold and you'll be solid!

Also, it's the bottom one of the two 10mm at the bottom of the assembly.

Glad it went smooth. It is a pretty simple install. I think getting the OEM reverse light plug loose is like 50% of the work :)

Yeah, I may have lied slightly when I said I only used one tool... Small flat head to help with that connector.

There are fancier installation instructions in my BST thread. Just for others who might wonder which threaded post to attach the relay to.

Installed. Pretty easy and quick...works like a charm. Thanks @Puppypunter and @daveeasa for coming up with this mod. I always disliked the fact I could barely see what was behind me when backing up at night. It is even worse on the trail when its pitch black outside! I saw someone post in one of the threads about the DIR mod that one could just turn off the head lights. That doesn't work on the trail when you and your spotter are using that light trying to avoid large boulders or even a steep drop off. I say this is a fairly inexpensive mod to increase my ability to safely reverse, both in town and out on the trail. Cheers to all those involved in the brainstorming and development of the DIR harness!
