    Would traction boards have helped?

Just to add, I forgot my shovel and air compressor from my previous trip crossing the Mojave trail. I left them in the garage after detailing the truck. As far as tools I had my basic tool kit, a trowel and a camping hatchet. I tried using firewood and all weather mats for traction but I couldn’t get any momentum because of how deep I was buried. A hi lift jack and thick board would have come in handy. Of course before I slept I watched all the cool gear they make to get you out of sand by yourself. Time for some investments in recovery gear.

Just got an alignment from a local Toyota dealership. It was pulling to passenger. Next stop San Diego, and maybe camping on a state beach Parking Lot. :D

I am totally sold on those Kinetic recovery straps, plus a set of maxxtraxx and when I'm out solo I carry a Pull Pal so I can still use my winch without trees. Of course bottle jack with 2x4 pieces to lift a wheel and fill under it, and 60" hi-lift worst case.

Funny thing is I’ve been collecting craft beer for my road trip starting from Sacramento through Flagstaff, Sedona and Tuscon. I still don’t feel like I deserve a beer but I ended up in San Diego. So when in Rome

Really cool of that guy to help you out. You can easily run 12 psi in sand without popping a bead. I have a set of x bull traction boards from Amazon , 80 bucks and pretty good quality , I've used them maybe half a dozen times.

Don’t know if you agree with Toyota or not, but why? Disk or drum brakes have nothing to do with what happened to him. And I bet if he pulls his rear drums, there will be sand in there, but not in his front disk.
