Anyone have a SimpleUSB Mirror adapter connected?

Looking to get a Dashcam and want to make the install as clean and painless as possible. I don't want to run a lot of wires and really don't want to have to "tap into" any connections since I'm not comfortable with that.

Was looking at this one and wonder how easy it would be to install on my 2021 Tacoma?

I'm using one to power my Garmin Mini cam in my 2020.

I too soon will have my dash cam to mount behind mirror excited wife and I going on road trip in April to pikes peak 1600 miles one way lol pumped

I've had one for a couple of years, so I have the first generation. No problems at all.

 

I have one for my dashcam. It works fine but seems to put a bit of stress on the OEM connectors due to the extended length. No problems so far.

I also have a Valentine One, but I have that hooked up to the fuse box. Be careful not to push too many watts through it, I would limit yourself to 1 device.

 

I would of bought that adapter for my dash cam but i had one of those female USB adapter with a power and ground. I just soildered the wires going to the mirror for power. I tried looking for the same adapter on Amazon and couldnt find it. It can’t be more then a couple of dollars.

 

Thanks everyone for the links and your feedback on using this. Looks easy to install (just snap in), but maybe there's a way relieve some of the strain off the OEM connector?

Think I'll get one once I decide which Dash Cam to use.

I know Garmin is spendy but reliable I got the Garmin duel camera for $276 on Amazon

 

I drive a lot of interstate and there is dumb drivers out there and the wife and I want to record some of our road trips

 

I hated my A119, even though I know a lot of people like it.

I currently have the Rover R2 that works alright. I prefer the suction cup over the adhesive and it records 4K 24/7 and holds around 14 hours of footage. Do note: any camera you get will most likely not record when the car is off (mirror loses power). Most dashcams only have a capacitor due to the fact that the heat of a sitting car can degrade batteries fairly quick.

If I could do it over, I would probably go with Garmin 66w. Even though it doesn't shoot in 4K (which can make a huge difference for getting plate numbers), it supports 500gb SD cards (most dash cams only support 128gb), has a small battery, and supports voice commands. The Garmin mini is also a popular choice.

The strain on the cable is not that "significant", but if your dashcam falls from its mount, it will be dangling from it. Let us know if you find a good solution.

 

Here’s a pic of the adapter. It has just two wires red and black that was tapped to the oem mirror harness.

 

I have three of the A119-v3 dashcams and have had good luck with them. Night time video is excellent.

 

Thanks...how do you mount them? I'd rather not put an adhesive on my windshield and would prefer a mirror mount kit.

 

i used the adhesive mounts for my three.

 

I think adhesive is the standard. My dongle, memory card, and Garmin mini all delivered tonight, installing tomorrow. What’s the hesitation to using the adhesive?

 

I have the a119 don’t use the adhesive there’s a stock GoPro mount in the truck use that. There’s a company that 3D prints an adapter that’ll go right in there. I’ll post it later if I can find it. It’s in my post history
