1st Gen Lunchtable Thread - General Discussion

I got along really well with the Saudi guys at my school, all there for some form of engineering or computer science. I asked one of them why they were in the US for education when they had very good schools (better than my podunk state school) in UAE. They said, it doesn't matter how good their schools are, an American degree is gold to hiring managers there.

 

Be interesting to talk to hiring managers and see why that is. I've heard similar things elsewhere. I'm sure there are fantastic schools overseas, but schools here definitely have the branding thing figured out.

 

That and just overall quality.

I had my hood replaced due to some POS tossing a brick over a sound wall while I was driving by. Thankfully the hood protector and front end of hood helped to deflect it up and over the cab. If not for that hood protector that thing would've flat out hit the windshield on the driver's side.

Anyway, insurance replaced the hood. Cheap aftermarket POS of course. It looks perfect, can't tell a difference visually but what I didn't realize at the time, the aftermarket hood weighed more than the OE hood. Didn't notice this until I installed the stryker hood struts. They had trouble lifting the additional weight.

OE if you can find it and afford it.

 

What is a fair price for used 1st Gen add spindles?

 

I've bought and sold them with good bearings around $120 for a pair.

 

Yeah, I’m going to go OE. The idea of money for suspension upgrade/seats/etc was just a bit enticing. Long run I’ll appreciate the OE stuff more

@Wulf for general fender cutting, bumper trimming, etc I would be best getting a grinding wheel vs sawzall? What do most people use the sawzall versus wheel for, big chops and cutting?

 

The second half of the assignment was to read and critique essays from 3 of my classmates. I cringed hard having to go through them because all 3 were written in the tone as if they were speaking and 2 of the 3 had horrendous grammatical errors.

I have submit the revision in 4 days and the second half of that is let someone more professional read my draft and critique it for me... would you be willing to do that? No biggie if you're busy, I can send it to the tutoring center at school but I know you offered months ago to help cause you like english

 

5 lug fenders have like zero flare, cause they're designed for car tires. But you could probably get yourself enough room to avoid cutting with the right wheel (like what you have) just bolting on 4WD model fenders.

 

A min of a C is required for a grade to be considered passing and after a Bachelors is received a B is required for any masters level class so you're good there

I know the 01-04 5 lug fenders were a lil higher as well as front springs longer, but know there'll be some massaging and cutting needed.

So u think I can cut inner fender all out and slap the 4wd fenders over instead for make shift "fiberglass fenders" for room? Guess if I fk my cuts up I have a plan b haha

I think you have to worry about making sure it doesn't sink before what it'll look like while it sinks

Cutoff wheel on an angle grinder is probably you best choice. Good news is the $15 HF 4.5" special and a stack of cutting disks will be a tool you'll get years of use out of.

A sawzall will grab that sheet metal and push and pull it around and you end up with wavy body panels. It's also much harder to control on thin material. Reciprocating saws are great for cutting through hoses, wiring, rusted bolts, and tearing through things you don't give a shit about at all.
