Dashcam - definitely need one after reading this

Just got done reading this thread (https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/totaled-my-taco-need-to-vent.707128/) and now I'm thinking about buying one.

What are people using and how do you like the one you have so far?

 

I've got a Blackvue with front and rear cameras running off the same SD card, and I love it!

 

Subbed for answers. Definitely need a dashcam

 

I've got this unit; very happy with it. Mounted up near the GoPro mount, out of sight from the driver's seat, but provides excellent visibility and good quality video fore and aft. The rear-facing camera is an IR unit, and works well even on the darkest nights; would have no problem seeing someone breaking into the truck in the dark.

 

There was a thread on here that did detailed dashcam reviews. I have a Rexing that I bought for 100 bucks or something. There is a lot I like about it, and a lot that I don't. It produces a great image, and has a parking mode. But the thing that burns me is that when its in parking mode it wont start recording until it senses an impact.


If I had to do it again, I would buy this unit.

Looks and functions exactly like mine, except that the sensor is slightly better and that it has a 20 second buffer in parking mode so it will start recording before it senses impact. Plus I found some etsy shop that makes a gopro adapter for it.

 

I bought the least expensive unit first to see if it is something I would use.....I bought this and decided to keep it Its great for frontal/

I don't need the rear because the front will indicate if I am hit in the back...Inexpensive insurance

Can you hardwire the Apeman C450 or is it like a cigarette lighter type connection?

 

I have the Nexar NEXS1. Great dashcam and they give you unlimited cloud storage and include an SD card. You can view your drives right on your smartphone from their app. They also have great customer service. All their dashcam's are currently on sale. I added the link for you to check out.

Did the hardwire kit for parking mode and everything was super simple. Everything works great!

I bought and installed the apeman c550 with front and rear cams, GPS receiver, and used the simple mirror to usb outlet plug. Very happy with it so far

 

I installed a couple of Apeman dash cams (two different models) in the wife's RAV4 and my Tacoma. Both work well so far. Cost was about $36 and $60.

I bought a Garmin mini. It has no screen, so you have to download an app to control it, view video, and so on. I mounted it behind the rear view mirror and used a Dongar https://www.dongartechnologies.com/ Simple USB adapter to power it.

Another vote for the Blackvue 2 channel camera setup; I have the DR900S, and it works exceptionally well. As I have a canopy, I routed the rear camera the rear window of the canopy, so that I'm always recording front & rear.
