Hi guys. I just got bought a used 2016 Tacoma. I have been able to "deep clean" pretty much everything in the truck but this clear plastic trim (see pic) dives me crazy with the dust that's under it. I've looked at other posts here but I only find one to remove the colored (silver) trim.

Is there any way to remove that clear trim to clean behind it?

    Thanks,

It may require pulling that unit out from the back. I believe it is called the "Air-conditioning amplifier" or something like that. Check the FSM.

The FSM only has procedures for removing/replacing that control panel but doesn't get into component level disassembly of this panel. And there's a bit of dash disassembly needed to get this panel out. If anything, I'd ignore the dust but put some screen protector material on that cheap ass plastic screen.

I don't think anyone would expect the FSM to break down individual components, but it sounds like it needs to come out to get the lens off from what op posted. Also, there is no reason to touch the screen so why protect it?

Hey, thanks for the replies guys, appreciate it. I've bee thinking about using just a can of compressed air but I'm worried that it might just blow more dust inside.

There's also no reason to touch the instrument cluster but many put a protector on it to protect from scratches--there's a whole thread on it. The point is if the OP is OCD about dust he probably doesn't want the cheap plastic to get accidentally scratched from say cleaning the dash, wiping dust off, etc.

The FSM for my other vehicle breaks down the instrument cluster and HVAC control unit. So the point is if the FSM for the Taco doesn't, this assembly may not be designed for disassembly and piece parts won't be sold individually making what he's wanting to do a higher risk affair should something break.

If you remove the whole panel, you can then pop/pry off the black trim which will allow you to remove and thoroughly clean the clear lens.
