It’s the factory camera that sucks, the front nakita cam on the pioneer screen is clear with high resolution.

Bit the bullet last night and ordered the 8600 last night along with all the fixings. Also ordered the mic to replace the factory mic from enfig so I don't have any random mics just hanging out.

Got a call from the dude at enfigcarstereo.com saying that now he sells a tacoma specific model, but he doesn't have it listed on the website yet. He changed my order and now I'm getting the microphone with the tacoma specific housing. Gotta say, I was pleasantly surprised by customer service that good from a site like that. Asked him when it would be put up on the website, and he told me that it would be during his site overhaul, which would be soon. So for now, if you want to get that microphone from him, I would say call them.

Still waiting for crutchfield to ship my order, and the guy at enfig said it would be in the mail tomorrow morning. Hoping to get all the hardware sometime this week, and installing it before I have to do a cross country drive next week.

EDIT: Including the items in my cart from crutchfield, so that people can take a look.

    Pioneer DMH-WT8600NEX
iDatalink ACC-SAT-TO2 (NOTE: the recommended accessory pack from crutchfield DID NOT include this GPS cable, had to look it up on the idatalink website)
    American International TOYK9714 Dash Kit
    Crutchfield RCA Adapter
    Metra 40-LX11 Antenna Adapter
    Metra AX-TOYUSB USB Port Cable
    iDatalink Maestro RR Interface Module
    iDatalink HRN-RR-TO2 Factory Integration Adapter

    From enfigcarstereo.com
ENFIG_MIC_VW1_WITHCONVERTER, which the guy called me about to change to the tacoma specific model that is currently unlisted, but if you call you can buy it like that.

EDIT: It has apparently been added to the website, but I couldn't find a way to navigate to it without a direct link.

Please post a photo once you receive it. I might bite. It's on the expensive side for what it is when the supplied mic works just fine with a little foam to hold it in place.

I purchased the enfig VW mic (https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/after-market-head-unit-mic-in-factory-location.633699/). I too would be interested in your mic install and any specific on the Tacoma specific mic.

CarPlay is just giving information from your phone so sounds like your phone GPS is out of wonk? Not sure if you can calibrate that somehow on iPhone... hopefully someone will be able to give a better answer.

Phone alone unconnected , GPS works fine . It’s only when connected to apple CarPlay it shows my location in correctly. I have been doing a lot of research and as many of you already know the previous head unit has GPS and this one does it as it relies on either android or Apple CarPlay. Excuse my ignorance since I didn’t install the stereo but would the antenna for the GPS be interfering with this or causing an interference with the cellular GPS location?

To plug a front camera directly into the head unit without an interface like Car Solutions, do you need a head unit with two camera inputs to account for the factory rear camera too? Or does the Maestro account for the rear camera without regard to the camera-specific inputs on the head unit?

I think it is based on the head unit.

Yeah, I believe that it is based on the head unit. I remember watching youtube videos that said that this and the higher grade pioneer units had inputs for front and rear cameras, but i'm not 100% sure.

That being said, I received my hardware for the install today. Waiting for the Indiana leg of the trip where I meet up with my friend who I had the mic sent to in order to do the install.

I just installed my front camera yesterday, it plugs directly into the Pioneer head unit (RCA input labeled 'Second Camera Input' or something like that?) and doesn't interface with the Maestro at all. With the Maestro you can program a steering wheel button to bring up that camera on the head unit though.

Thanks! This is exactly the information I was looking for. I was planning to program the same triggers as the Car Solution interface.

The Germes lab car-solutions.com module multi-plexes via the single camera input for front and rear. Hence it works fine with the OEM head unit. Aftermarket head units typically have at least front and rear camera inputs. The maestro's job is handing off the OEM wired rear camera to an RCA input to an aftermarket head unit.

So, to employ a front camera you need either some way to multi-plex off the rear camera input (via ABC or Germes or custom homebrewed harness/switch) _or_ an aftermarket head unit with multiple inputs (then no ABC or Germes is needed). However, I really like the Germes module in addition to an aftermarket head unit which wouldn't need it because of it's ability to capture a double click of mode, something the maestro cannot be programmed to do, and the quick up/down to switch camera inputs and especially for the auto-on of front camera when shifting out of reverse.

Upgraded from 1.3 to 1.3.1. Only thing I noticed of significance was that CarAVAssist seem faster and more stable.

^^ USB stick is the way to go? I should try that, only trouble is I ditched my USB port for seat heaters... So not fun to do it with the phone but still probably faster than getting around to installing my lsp8.

i did it with my Iphone. It was fine, no issues. Was really hoping this would solve the Maestro/CarPlay bugs but I don’t notice a difference.

Yeah, I've done it twice with the phone, it was less than fun both times. Since you don't have to do it enough it's easy to forget a step, particularly having to go into the unit to transfer or whatever. Reminds me of how much fun it was to update bios on a 386 using floppy disks.
