After looking around, I almost gave up looking for a microphone replacement, for my aftermarket head unit, which fit in the factory location on a gen 3 taco. Then I found a video for a replacement mic that fit my Jetta. After getting it, I realized this would probably fit my taco with very little modification.

So here ya go....enfigcarstereo.com. SKU - ENFIG_MIC_VW1 It comes as a standard 3.5mm mono pole mic plug. They also sell a 3.5mm to 2.5mm adapter if you need it for your head unit.

Once I had the mic trimmed to fit in the slot, I back filled it with poly batting and closed cell foam to remove any chance of picking up road noise from the back hand side.

The microphone is a little expensive, but it comes prebuild with more than sufficent cable to run across the roof and down either A pillar and over to the head unit.

Originally, my aftermarket mic was on the driver a pillar. Overall sound quality is much closer to factory. Siri picks up voice commands without issue, and in call road noise is much less.

So...I have not pulled mine apart, but why does the factory mic not work? Is is wired through the wiring harness and not a 2.5 mm or 3.5 mm jack? If do, has anyone tried splicing in a jack?

OP, came across this post and was about to pull the trigger on the MIC you mentioned. Just wanted to see how your setup was working since you installed the new MIC.

I bought this mic. It came in yesterday and am getting ready to install.

OP - First of all, thanks for the lead. In your pics, the side you have facing up is covered with mesh. Do you have it installed upside down? Staring at this thing it would seem that way. Thoughts?

No issues to date. Overall performance is better than the pillar mounted mic.

Question about the aftermarket head unit. Did you lose any factory settings/screens/backup camera?

+1, just installed this Enfig mic, in the same manner the OP did. I did add electical tape to cover the top of the opening where the modded Enfig mic drops into the OEM spot, filled with polyfil and same closed cell foam as OP and then covered the housing opening with electrical tape. So far it sounds much better as I was only using the built in mic on the front of my Dasaita Android HU.

Just got mine, looking forward to installing. Is the front mic on the Dasaita automatically muted when you connect this Enfig mic?

Which head unit did you go with and did it mess up any of the backup/panoramic cameras?
