Geezer step box needed for bed access

Hi, I'm pretty new to overlandind. 62 YO and recently bought a 2021 Taco off road. I'm about to retire and want some sort of step box to make it easier to get in/out of the truck bed where I'll have an AT Overland Habitat. Alumbox looks great but too pricey ($300.00) for me.

Is there something similar on the market that is less expensive?

Thanks for the suggestion. I considered a step that attaches to the truck but I'd like to have the dual function of a box I can store things in and a bigger target to step on when getting in/out of the bed at night for example. Ideal is a box that is tough enough to step on.

 

I used a simple folding stool for that purpose. Cheap, doesn't take up much space and you're not having to move a big box full of crap every time you want a step.

I don't know how much you weigh but I have a couple of these. They're great and I step on them all the time. I think I'm around 210lbs.

You could check Home Depot or the likes for a folding step or a small platform ladder which could also be used for access to the top of the truck.

Cheap little folding step stool.

 

Pick your favorite tool brand and buy one of their plastic stacking tool boxes. Give you pretty dry storage and should be able to stand on it. I have the ridgid one and it's pretty nice.

I use my cooler.

 

When my Mom gets in my truck which isn’t to often (no I don’t live with her) lol
I used to keep a small milk crate in the bed but it would get all leaves and junk in it
Went to Home Depot and got a small plastic storage box that works great
It fits between the 2 seats in side the rear AC cab
I keep extra stuff in it and if needed i put it in the bed -water tight

 

This ubiquitous folding step approach works well. We have one in our kitchen for my short(er) spouse. Don’t get white! Amazon carries them. Harbor freight carries them. They’re everywhere and something like $10.

i keep one of these in the bed to use for accessing roof racks and also makes a decent little stool to sit on. Bought it at Aldi for $7. Folds flat

 

I guess I qualify as a "geezer" at 76 years old. I don't need a step to get into the bed, but I do need one to reach up to the Prinsu rack. If I carry anything up there I'm gong to also have to carry a step ladder.

 

Search Amazon for "Pickup Truck Tailgate Ladder" there are a couple different solutions.
