I'm upgrading my battery and am considering replacing with a Northstar 27F rather than the 24F but am wondering if anyone else has had problems fitting the larger size. I can always stick with the 24F but would prefer the largest I can fit, and I know the 2nd gens came with the larger battery.

I've been looking for input in this thread for a similar battery:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/which-single-battery.459046/

Its a 34M and dimensionally looks like it will fit so I might just go ahead and pull the trigger.

Seems like most folks on this board are more interested in a dual battery setup than one larger one.

27F will fit, you just need to pick up the battery tray from a 2nd Gen w/tow option that came with the 27F standard.

Everything I’ve read says so, haven’t needed a battery yet. I bought the new tray. Not sure if I need new hooks with a 27f

I’ve also read ppl saying 27f fits on their stock tray so

Well, the stock tray in my ‘18 offroad is slightly more rigid than a disposable Tupperware lid. A Northstar 27F battery weighs in around 65 lbs so it made short work of that tray when I dropped it in. Just ordered the 2nd gen 27F tray and will report back once all is done.

I’m confused now. I bought 74431-0C020 and it’s like you said Tupperware. Ive actually not even looked at my stock tray close enough and assumed it was the same when I bought it. Just was getting stuff together for when the time comes

Oh, I’ve read those and am claiming selective amnesia!

Mine’s mostly a daily driver, but we do occasionally take it to do field trials with our dogs so the extended battery life is good to have. We sit around waiting a lot. I’ll admit to a little bit of concern though.

With a proper fit and tension, I think the lips will be enough when combined with your tie down to hold things in place. The 27 overhangs the 24 tray so it’s tension only that’s holding it in place for the next few days.

And? Have you broken your taco yet from the oversized battery? I suspect the broken battery mounts have come from people running higher speed stuff with washboards. Or maybe that’s just wishful thinking on my part.
