Gear Oil + LSD additive

im getting my gear oil in my rear diff changed tomorrow and i know i need 80W-90, but what brand is best? and what about LSD additive (my truck has LSD rear end)

Read this thread, and it will give some good suggestions. I think a lot of those guys with LSD's are running dyno oil with the LSD additive.

EDIT: I'm not sure what brand most of them are suggesting but any name brand dyno oil should be good, but read the thread and it will have some suggestions.

As long as it's the correct grade (80W-90) the brand shouldn't matter. As for as the LSD additive, I went with Lubegard :

I currently have Valvoline 80w-90 + Motorcraft LSD additive in my truck. Works fine.

Before, I had

$29 75w-90 Synthetic Gear Lube - 1 Quart (Pack of 2)

75w-90 and NAPA LSD additive. I was getting the groans in the morning.

My local dealership sells Kendall 80w-90 LSD Gear Oil. Only $4.99 per qt.

 

I've used Amsoil Severe Gear oil in our corvette LSD rear. Works great.
It already has the additive in it.

Just double check it's the proper specs for tacomas. I'll probably use that in mine when its time to change - assuming it meets recommendations (I haven't looked myself).

 

I have a 2005 prerunner v6, 4.0 auto trans, basic truck, no trd or anything like that, no possi rear end..........

I do not have the rear lsd sticker....the manual doesn't say use lsd. only 90 sae.......

I tow 5,ooo # travel trailer in and out hills and 1k miles trips...

1. I can not find 9o sae only. I found 80/90 sae...it has lsd in the bottle

2. should I upgrade for towing?

4. I think I would like syn fluid..?

75w-90. Make sure you have good amount in Diff as it will need it to keep it cool.

 

I highly recommend the Redline gear oil with the additive already in it. After going through many oil changes and additives , this is the only one that has worked for me.

 

do you think this amsoil 110sae is to much for our trucks? I tow....

 

I dont know how good Amsoil is, I tow it too but I have LSD so it was hard to get oil right. Delvac worked with GM additive and it is used in 18 wheelers so its good assurance that if you tow it can handle towing.

 

I just finished replacing my front and rear diff, and my transfer case with royal purple. I was kinda hesitant about spending $20 a quart, but living in Alaska, cheap synthetic is still expensive. Anyways, I test drove it and I will always use Royal Purple. Remember your first ride in a car with brand new tires installed? Less hummin, smoother drive? Its kinda like how I felt when driving with the Royal Purple. also, if you have the TRD Sport, it already has the LSD additive. My truck only has 15k but I felt that my rear diff had water in it after driving through 3ft of water this summer. come to find out, it didn't have any water. I still do not regret changing my fluilds though. Royal Purple has a new fan!

Just noticed the guy has a 2010 and he has an AUTO LSD and doesn't need any friction modifiers.

 

11' tacoma SR5 4x4 I use Synthetic 75-90 for both diffs and transfer. No additive needed (changed my rear to detroit mechanical-no clutches)

 

My truck has auto lsd, so I should use an LSD additive?

I use whatever brand of non synthetic 80-90 (I might go with 85-140 next time, that's what east coast gear supply recommends) gear oil and the 4oz champion lsd additive in the rear diff. I use synthetic
