A dealer told me today I could go 275/70/17 if I did this lift with no rubbing or anything

There is no simple answer since there are so many factors in play. It depends on the wheel width, offset, and alignment.

Typical wheel specs that tend to be 'non-rub friendly' are a more narrow wheel, more positive offset, and an alignment more positive caster (moves the wheel forward). There is also a middle ground here since too much positive offset like a stock wheel will not stick out far enough and rub on your UCA.

For example: A rim like SCS that is 8.5" wide with a -10 offset is more likely to rub with the same tire than something like a TRD Pro SEMA wheel that is 7" wide with a +4 offset. The SCS is more wider, sticks out more, and is more likely to rub on the cab mount. You can try to max out the caster to move the wheel forward to give you the best chance, but with stock UCA's you can only get so much positive caster without messing up the camber.

I suggest trying to search for other posts with a 2" lift with similar wheel specs to what you're wanting to see what the largest tire is. There are dedicated tire size threads that might help.

I have had this lift put on by the dealer a few weeks ago. Now I am getting mild vibrations and a rhythmic humming/light growling noise between 20 and 45 mph. Has anyone else experienced this?

I have vibration issues now that I have got this lift installed :( it is intermittent and seems most prevalent at about 45 mph.

put it in 4wd and see if it goes away....for some reason any time you lift these trucks it has a tendency to throw out the needle bearings.....there is a ecgs bushing replacement for it.... good thing its under warranty since the dealership installed it....take it back to them...they are well aware of the needle bearing problem and there are a shit ton of threads on here about it

My dealer will install tomorrow the kit plus wheels and tires. They have done a number of this type of install and with the lift kit, the taco can accommodate a 285 tire. My wheel is going to be 17x9 at a 0 offset. Warranty stays in tact.

Yikes! I'll have my TRD lift installed a week this Friday. I've noticed no vibrations, and most of my drive home from work is a 45 mph limit zone. I'm on the lookout now. Thanks.

So for the Canadian boys. :canada:, my dealer said they can now order it
It will be $ 1830.00 for the kit and $1105.00 for the install
    Over $ 3000 with tax....ouch
They need a VIN to order it also.

Even with warranty service, they'd just swap for another needle bearing and you'll see this same issue later?

Guess folks will have to buy ECGS bushing and take it to dealership for warranty service.

That won't work. Some dealerships will do the clamshell bushing. Just do it, its going to happen.

Tell that to all the Jeep chicks driving fully modded Jeeps from a show room floor.

If I had a dollar for every time I saw an overly modded dealership Tacoma in their showroom, I’d be able to take a vacation with it. They sell them. At eye gouging premiums. Easily.

Most people outside of this forum don’t give a damn what parts they put on their Tacoma, as long as it has the look they want. Spacers, TRD Pro lift, Bilstein 5100, don’t matter. They will sell the same.

Thought I would add a couple more before and after pictures for anyone interested. Tried my best to capture the same camera angles at the same time of day.

Added this kit with with just over 100 miles on the truck (rig?), so I don't have a lot of seat time to compare. However, it behaves just as it did when I bought it 6 days ago, but the new level viewing angle from the driver's seat is noticeable. Very happy so far. Only thing I might change is add some color to the grille letters.

Before / After measurements (ground to fender, both with full tank of gas) -
    • Left front: 35.44" > 37.63" = +2.19"
    • Left rear: 36.69" > 37.81" = +1.12"
    • Right front: 35.63" > 37.81" = +2.18"
    • Right rear:36.69" > 37.81" = +1.12"

Overall thoughts, for whatever they're worth:

Don't get this kit if you're only shopping on price. As the detractors of this kit have repeated many times, you can accomplish the same lift for far cheaper. Moreover, the included grille adds no value to many as they already have something similar installed.

Do get this kit if you have the financial means and appetite for a Toyota co-branded product. Despite what others have said, if I was looking for a used Tacoma and had two options with a leveling kit (and all other factors equal), I personally am going to choose the one with the TRD kit.

It took my dealer two days to get the parts and one full day to install. So far (30 miles) no vibrations from the dreaded needle bearing. Ordering wheels and tires next to complete this first project.

@cheesepizza Truck is looking good. I plan to have my 2 front windows lightly tinted to stay legal. I am just like you, I prefer the TRD kits more than anything else since warranty is a big thing to me on a new truck. Today, I have my dealer install all the goodies and I'll post dealer pics that were sent to me later this afternoon.

Same here, looking into either color matching the grille or just doing the letters.
