Blower Chirp TSB...Half Yay!/Half Sadface

Finally had a chance to have service listen to my Canary, I mean blower fan. It will be replaced, but the parts are on TWO MONTH backorder.

Good lord, I can't imagine how many people who aren't on TW go get this done to have that kind of back order!

 

Great...that's probably why I am waiting on a callback from the dealer for my two issues (steering intermediate shaft and blower chirp).

 

Greetings, I'm new to the forum and found this post relative to chirping noise from the fan. I have a 2010 Tacoma 4-door and have been experiencing chirping nosie coming from the first two low settings on the fan for about six months now. Two dealer visits resulted in them removing a leaf from the air filter (so they say). I'm still getting the noise and its even worse in the cold weather. Any advice and or suggestions would be appreciated, Thanks, Dan

I went in to day to see when I could get my new rims installed and have the TPMS sensors swapped at the same time and I was pleasantly surprised they could fit me in tomorrow. I mentioned offhand that my heater fan is making a racket, so the service rep went and spoke to parts, came back and told me they'd replace the blower tomorrow too! I was pretty surprised since I figured I'd not only have to go through the usual hassle of trying to get warranty work done, but I was also prepared to wait for parts even if they did agree to fix it.

Needless to say I'm sticking with this dealership for the time being.

Hope you guys get your shit resolved asap.

 

What, exactly, is the issue? I've noticed that my fan squeaks sometimes, sounds like a CD player trying to read a CD. Is this what the TSB is for? Can someone provide a link, please?

 

I have been waiting for about a month on a new fan motor. Cant even stand to drive the truck right now because the dang chirp is so loud, and its too cold to keep the heat off.

 

Ahhh damn..i was about to try and take my taco in for the blower chirp and rear tsb...

 

they replaced my blower under warranty, then the new one also started chirping after just a couple months. I wouldn't even bother unless they actually fix the problem and redesign that unit.

 

Thanks for the help everyone---Dealer called me back today and went to order the parts from the TSB, and the motor is on backorder. Looks like they finally figured out that something is wrong! Thanks again,Dan.

Yep, all parts for my repairs are back ordered. Should get the steering shaft parts in a week or so, but there are apparently 1600+ back orders for HVAC fans.

The TSB replacement fan doesn't work. Cleaning and lubing the existing fan only temporarily fixes the issue; it will come back. You're best bet to fix the problem is to pay the $40 and get an aftermarket fan off of Amazon. THe fan has a better design. Do a simple search on "Squeaky blower motor" or "Fan Chirp" The TSB does not fix the problem; they just install a different crappy Delphi made fan.

oh the fan is made by delphi? that explains it.......shame on you toyota.....yes i have now heard the chirping thats constant....radio up please! there thats better

 

Thanks for the advice and link, steviestyles! After much researching and checking out the other threads linked here, I decided to save myself the trouble and order this.

 

I took mine in last week and they said they didn't hear anything! So gotta take it in again. Mine is a 2005 you think they would have fixed the problem by now!

 

After reading a lot of post it seams like there are at least 2 different bllower noise probems. One is the ticking sound that only occurs on the two lowest settings. I had this on my 2010. I fixed it after listening to it for six months. It's the brushes. It's not leaves or bearings or bushings. Put little bit of light machine oil on the motor brushes and springs and no more ticking. Takes 20 minutes. Don't put it where the brushes contact the comutater. Lube it where it slides in the slot.

As my name implies, third Toyota truck. One pre Tacoma and two Tacoma's. BLower fan has need an issue in all of them. Got my 2010 in NOV09 and by MAY10 fan was driving me nuts. Took it in and they supposedly replaced it the same day. By OCT10 all but the highest speed was killing me again. Early NOV in the shop and a replacment ordered. Finally came in mid DEC and first I was informed it was a TSB and only on the service sheet they gave me.

Sad thing is I noticed today that it is making noise on the lowest setting again. May not be through with this one yet!!!! Comments on buying an aftermarket may make sense. I'll try to update later.

 

Oh god.. this is a common thing? Great.. My 2011 just started to do this. Its only 4 months old! It has like 5,000 miles on it!

 

Does anyone know if the fan assembly changed from '09 to '10? Amazon says it fits the '09 but not '10. I would presume it would fit, and even though I'm on my second TSB fan, I would rather spend $40 to fix it once and for all then have to wait on the dealer...
