Hello everyone! My truck is looking pretty shabby with it's worn down window trim. It's one thing I'd like to remedy. I'm curious what people do to dress them up.
I usually just put some 303 or back to black on it, but it's beyond just putting a dressing on it.
I'm wondering if people plasti dip, paint, or just clean it somehow.
I would really like some kind of permenent solution to this, short of replacing it with new rubber.
    Any suggestions?

I was just about to search for the thread where someone replaced the lower door to window weather stripping with new parts. Mine are starting to look funky and want to replace them. Don't know about the back window but keep searching for this thread topic there has been someone here who replaced some parts and provided P/N's.

absolutely! But everything I have found was for the 1st gens... But I was think it might look weird to replace just the bottom part of the window gasket.. but the side of the windows don't look bad at all, might be a possibility to just replace them. I just hope it doesn't look completely different from the sides..

This problem with the back window trim has been posted before and is a problem for many. The reason really isn’t clear except that some use different methods to make it look better. It doesn’t really go away, it reappears and looks nasty and worse as time goes by. I have been wiping mine with vinegar during the summer to try and kill what ever it is, thinking that it’s some kind of algae/fungus and then applying 303. Hope someone eventually figures this out. It’s probably just some shit rubber from China that doesn’t tolerate UV rays from the sun or something and will require some sort of rubber black paint.

I replaced the lower side window trim on mine and it's a very easy job. The part isn't even that expensive. Not sure about the rubber around the back window though.

You can try these part numbers for your window trim:

    LH 68210-04020
    RH 68160-04020

lots of different videos on youtube about this topic:
    here is just one below...
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8hOANtl0HM

I know some owners here on TW treat the rubber with a little coat of silicone spray every so often and it keeps it looking good as new
pretty sure @Subway4X4 does this on his 2005 tacoma and his trucks trim looks better than my 2012

I found this on the 2nd Gen Forum a couple months back. Saved it so I could replace mine. But the back window. Idk about that one.

I bought them from here, in fact this is where I got most of my OEM products.

If you find a method that works, be sure to hit it with 303 Aerospace Protectant afterwards. It will make those rubbers shine and add UV protectant. It really is one of those 'you have to see it, to see it' products. Now I swear by the stuff.

    Stock for now.. maybe
I protect my 2015 with 303 but it is still getting worse especially on the rubber window trim. I've only owed this truck for 1.5 years. Like a poster stated above, it kind of seems like fungus or some kind of algae. I've put 303 and other products on it which make them look better but you can still see the spots. I agree with other poster just being cheap ass rubber unfortunately but i will try the vinegar idea... can't hurt

My 2005 trim is all original from when I bought my truck in 2004.
I just run it through water once in awhile.

    Many posts on topic.
I use some bathroom tile cleaner with bleach (or just use bleach) and carefully rub all the trim down. Then use a 3M red/maroon pad and simple green to again carefully scrub all the crap off and I use painters tape to protect the painted areas. Then apply some Back to Black. Looks good for a year or so then redo. Good enough for my 12 year old Tacoma.

I replaced the lower trim (belt molding) and window run weather-strip (the large piece that surrounds the door glass) on my truck, both doors, because they were so badly damaged and moldy.
The rubber around the back glass (slider) is part of the glass and not replaceable.
