I have all eight (yep, eight; Four volumes, then four sub-volumes... on paper) of the Toyota Repair Manual for the 2009 Tacoma and cannot find a single page about the pickup bed. It looks like it should be in "4A", but no dice. They have the sticker layouts diagrammed and measured precisely, but nothing about the bed.

Anyone out there with the factory repair manuals to prove me wrong? A volume/page reference would be swell.

And yes, it's a little insane to have all eight volumes, but I do all of my own work and insist on doing it right, so it's a necessity.

I have access to ALLDATA not sure it will have what you're looking for. What exactly are you searching for related to the truck bed?

Nice, I'm looking for all bolt torque specs for all fasteners on the bed -- and a blow-up diagram of the whole bed assembly would be quite helpful, too.

If you go to a Toyota parts website. If they have the blow of the bed it will have torque specs on the bolts usually. Or you can use “tight plus a 1/4 turn” :D. Good luck finding the info you need.

    I’ve never seen one.
    Personally I’d go by feel.

I believe the size was m12x1.25. With a weird length. One not readily available at most parts stores.
A lot of guys have a hard time getting them out. When they finally do, the thread are usually toast.

The next issue is, if you go by a standard Bolt Torque guide.
One would think the bolts were at minimum 8T which calls for 80 Ft/Lbs.

Most guys have went 60 ft/lb and called it a day.
Again, I’d go by feel. Not a number.

No way I’m going 185 ft/lb by the T55 torque guide.
Not after seeing the way some of the thread are almost nonexistent after being removed.

You also might consider checking them often if you off-road, as the bolts can come loose.
This is due to the bed flexing, not because the bolts weren’t tight enough.
Once they get loose, the problem gets worse fairly quick.

    See here for details.

    All good info and suggestions!

Unfortunately, it appears the previous owner has applied the “Elbow Grease Method” to the tie down bolts, and one was severely over tightened, to the point the torx fitting was distorted and damaged. Trying to undo it, the rest of the fitting fins splintered off. Luckily the threads were fine, but now I’m headed for a replacement and some anti-corrosion treatment in the receiving threads.

Definitely agree that the max TQ on the torx bolt size is too much for this application. Since there’s composite material involved, I realize it’s especially important to not over-tighten.

Will definitely look at the links for parts diagrams. Thanks for the heads-up there. I’m just baffled that I have 45 Lbs and thousands of pages of repair manuals and there’s not a single diagram of the bed.... :annoyed:
