30+k and it’s holding strong. Worth the upgrade. I’m about to swap in a manual dash harness. I don’t personally need it. But it makes it more plug and play. You since you are a 2007 already have all the plugs under the dash.

Did you find any other resources for the swap before you did yours? The 1st gen threads seem really helpful too.
Guess the hardest part might just be sourcing everything. Iʻll just need to be patient with car-part.com, or maybe Iʻll call one of the local transmission shops.

So I got a lot of help with questions from @rheath08. He did the swap on his 2nd gen aswell.

carpart is where I got 90% of my things. I did go to toyota for a few things too. But the big stuff I sourced from carpart and offer up / Craigslist.

Thanks man, I found some gold in those threads you guys are on. Still trying to learn all I can. Trying to understand how you worked the e-brake conversion at the moment. The only similar info I could find on that was here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2nd-gen-hand-brake-conversion.650855/page-2, might be cool to have a handbrake though..

So what I did for the ebrake is under the center console the ebrake cable goes into a junction and splits into 2 cables (one for each wheel). It’s kinda hard to explain. One cable goes in, mounts to the block, and on the other side Theres 2 cables going to the rear wheels. That make sense? So the junction block and rear cables are the same. You just need the manual truck front portion of the ebrake cable. And tbh, I may swap to a true handbrake option in the future like the post you linked shows.

Got it, I think I just need to open the center console this week and have a look. I'll take pictures when I do.

Maybe I can get your guys opinion.

750$ for a 2010 manual trans with 170k on it from rock auto with a 1 year warranty.

Seems a little risky. Didn't know rock auto did those kind of sales. I took a shot in the dark and called one of those random fb marketplace adds for any engine/trans

I mean rock auto is pretty reputable. But I’d check car-part.com for wrecking yards around you within a few hrs and call around. You’d be suprised the prices. Yeah it’s always questionable if the syncros are bad etc. but it’s really up to you. I got mine for 200 on OfferUp with no Transfercase. That’s what really got the fire started for me. Took a chance and here I am LOL.

Wonder what the details of the “warranty” is, sometimes they’re shady and if you install it yourself it’ll void it and shit like that. Unlimited miles 1 year? Eh is it even worth it to pay extra for a warranty though? 125k seems highly likely it’ll keep going for a year no problem.

Alright they never called me back about the 700$ one but an FJ trans in Midland TX with manual shift transfer case shipped to me for 1775. Think only 140k on it. Trying to get him to do 1500.

This may be happening.... I'm excited but nervous lol.

I'm actually not wanting it! Lol just realized when I re-read that it's all time 4wd. I really don't need that as I'm not on trails all the time. Unfortunately it looks like I won't be getting that. However this guy isn't very good at staying in contact so hopefully tomorrow I'll at least have a transmission. If you want after I get it I'll give you his number. It'll be a headache actually getting him to keep contacting you but it seems cheap. I think I was going to get it for about 300 but I don't need it.

Does anyone know if the automatic transfer case on the fj mate with the manual? Hoping it's still 1" longer so I wouldn't have to get a spacer for my driveshaft. Still would enjoy the manual transfer shift though lol.

If I remember correctly. I believe you have to swap the Transfercase input shaft. Are you planning to do the automatic shifting Transfercase?

You are correct, they’re physically the same but you’ll need to swap tcase input shafts from the manual case to the auto case.

Just FYI, the FJ transmission has a slightly different 6th gear ratio.

Yea I saw that too. I was interested if that would cause any issues with my stock diff gearing. Either way the ratio is a bit better in 6th but minimal at best.

I would like to have the manual 4x4 shift t case from the auto trans and am more than willing to swap the shafts if need be. Just making sure that would work. I think I'll still need to do the 1" drive line spacer but that's fine for me. Or I could just swap the input shaft from my current case cause honestly I rarely use 4wd and bought it for the resale value and "what if" situations mainly. And it will be cheaper. But that resale will be out the window of I do this swap lol. It'll be mine for life. Lol

Excellent thread. I have a 2011 6-spd and I was toying with the idea of doing an auto conversion...

I have the dreaded throwout bearing chirp and was thinking about an alternate fix down the road if it creates a $$$ problem. From my research, the aftermarket 'fixes' don't actually fix the problem. So I have gone down the rabbit hole of what I might need to actually do a manual to auto conversion.

Are the manual and auto transfer cases different? Could I keep my manual transfer case?

I think to do the swap, all I would need would be the following:
    Toyota A750 transmission.
    New Radiator
    Auto Gauge Cluster
HGM Transmission controller. <-- this should circumvent the need for an Auto ECM. Could I keep my Manual ECM?
    https://www.hgmelectronics.com/transmission-controllers/
Auto Drive shaft (I have the double cab short bed).
Any toyota tiptronic shifter. The HGM controller can work with any.
Create a center console to house the HGM computer display along with the shifter.

I could remove the clutch pedal, and then keep the E-brake lever in the same spot (by your right leg).

    Any thoughts to this?

I have the bearings chirp with the Clutchmasters bearing too.
The transfer cases are close but not the same. The output shaft of the case has to be changed. (I believe) I just bought a trans and case from a MT.
The radiator is a thing unless you run a external transmission cooler.

Also the ebrake can stay where it is. The only difference is the pocket where it is. The rear center console portion is the same. I just swapped the front portion of mine.
